Technical knowledge required but cheap price makes it a winner
I use the ftp camera function to save the recordings, which i believe a lot of non pc savvy users would struggle to set up. I also have the recordings save to my server, and gradually build a library of of recordings. They do need house keeping to keep from getting to cluttered. The camera captures 5 minute recordings of 46,000kb each file size- which equates to around 286 files per day, all time and date stamped.In the house my wife and i can view the camera easily on any pc screen as its available on the LAN.Check recordings historically, like when Amazon say they tried to deliver...but actually did not :)With some thought about how best and where to fit the camera, plus having the tech available to get the best from it - its a great 'cheap' camera. Its a POE device makes installation easy IF you know how.This is the static version from Foscam, so next time i will try the PTZ version, which i suspect will ease installation massively.

Unusable software and terrible support
This is my second Foscam dome camera, although I have given up on them now.The hardware seems very well built and solid, but it severely let down by the simply unusable software.- Human detection does not work.- You can either choose high sensitivity and be bombarded by false/positive alerts 24 hours a day, or step it down one and don't get any alerts at all.- Mobile software awful and often fails to connect (have tried on both iOS and Android), missing more advanced features that require you to use the desktop software (ha!), and shows incorrect information (IP address, MAC address, etc.).- Foscam VMS desktop software (used on both Window and MacOS) simply does not work. Sees camera in the list but refuses to connect.- Support is practically non-existent, with no real expertise past "Please reboot and try again" type responses.I have been persevering with them up until now as I was thinking the software might improve over the four years which I have used them. It has got worse.

It did not work parts of it were missing. Should never have been offered for sale. Returned
