Ah.. is this what coffee is supposed to taste like? I've been using different coffee makers all my life and someone suggested that I try a French Press. Since I'm going to be moving to a new apartment soon and needed a more flexible coffee maker than my Keurig and espresso machine, I decided to get this. It can easily do enough just for myself or for guests, but that's not the impressive part. The impressive part is how smooth and lovely the coffee tastes. The same coffee grounds that I've used before in my family's drip coffee maker was an entirely different experience. There wasn't even a hint of bitterness, the coffee was pleasant and peaceful- even for being caffeinated! As for the press itself, it's incredibly easy to clean. The glass shrinks/expands with the heat, making it easy to remove from its plastic holder. None of the grounds get past the filter AND it comes with three backup metal mesh filters just in case. The maker contacted me twice with advice on how to better my coffee experience and let me know that if anything happens in shipping, all I need to do is let them know and they would send a replacement. Great coffee maker and customer service that went the extra mile without me even having to ask. Love it.

Very straight forward machine, better coffee
I have never used a french press before so this was new to me. I just got this item yesterday and used it today. I drank 2 cups of coffeee with it. One thing I noticed is that the coffee tasted extremely, "clear", for lack of a better word. I got this item to replace one of those Keurig-style mr. coffees that I had for at least a few years, I think the water reservoir in those things maybe goes bad after a while, and toward the end of it's life it started leaking water all over the counter and coffee grinds would get into the coffee. I also can't really describe it, but the coffee from that machine, compared to this rather simple device, tasted tainted somehow, I dunno.I also like the fact that this press is mainly stainless steel/glass so you don't have to worry about BPA or plastics. The outside and lid are plastic, but I would be more concerned about where the hot water will actually be sitting rather than the lip over the top. It was pretty easy to use, and I had virtually no grinds in my coffee after using it (i only spotted one errand crumb in my last cup at the very bottom of my glass, no others) which was a nice relief from the mr. coffee machine that was increasingly becoming mostly grinds at the bottom and grinds in between a few sips also. Only drawback I could think of, and it isn't that big of a deal really, is that after use, the coffee grinds are all muddy at the bottom of the carafe and you have to kinda scoop them out to throw them away. I don't flush my grinds down the sink so maybe this isn't an issue for people who do. I had thought about maybe getting a coffee filter to place on the bottom just for easy clean-up, we'll see.In the meantime, this press worked well, was extremely affordable, and is a very straight-to-the-point device. It's not overly complicated, and for what I purchased it for, it seems like it will more than fulfill my needs.Supposedly sumatra dream also has a lifetime warranty for parts, etc. and I already got an email that told me, if the glass unit breaks to contact them for a replacement. I don't see how they can make money from an item like this, and then also be willing to service that item for life, when it is so cheap in the first place, but ok! If this was the last coffee pot I ever purchased, I'd be okay with it.***UPDATE OCT 2016- Still happy with this press, it actually broke and I emailed the seller and they sent me a new one! So I guess the lifetime warranty issue is actually valid. What happened to make mine break I could not say, I had left it in the fridge with some coffee in it overnight and took it out, so maybe the glass just got cold and acclimated wrong, so it cracked, but they sent me a new one very fast. Great seller, 10/10 would recommend

Best cup of coffee I have ever had!
In planning for a recent camping trip, my husband and I were contemplating what type of non-electric coffee maker we should purchase. We had ordered a Coleman stove and had the option of ordering a pricier Coleman coffee pot, that goes directly on the stove; the ratings for this however, were so-so. In looking at other options we came across the Sumatra Dream French Press. My husband and I were clueless as to how to use a French press, so we reviewed a YouTube video to see if this was even a viable option. We figured it seemed easy enough, you pre-warm the glass with warm water, put the pre-measured coffee in (scoop is provided), then add hot water, and wait about five minutes; then you use the metal plunger apparatus and press down to plunge the coffee grounds to the bottom of the glass. So we purchased the French press and gave it a trial run before we hit the road. Let me just say, that this is incredibly easy to use! It is also relatively fast and extremely portable, which makes it perfect for travel. Clean-up is also simple...just a little soap, water, and a good rinse. In terms of the taste, this French press makes incredibly smooth coffee. My husband and I actually prefer it to our Keurig, which says a lot! For this price you can't beat the convenience, ease, and taste of coffee this incredible little press offers.

Certain to satisfy the Java drinker with a demanding just right taste.
My experience with this product has to result in a 5 star. I must say I have no other French press experience to compare with. It took me 3 brews to know How to get the coffee beverage I knew I wanted. Very, very good. It's a simple process for sure, however it requires being done correctly. It does help to understand some basic things about coffee and the effect of water temperature, the grind of the coffee, and brew time. In the end I found it all worth it. The French Coffee Maker by Sumatra Dream is a great little addition to bring it all together in an excellently brewed cup of Joe....
