comprehensive review of wooden planes
If you work with wooden planes, this is a must-have reference. It's a hefty book that covers just about every tool developed to hold a metal blade in a piece of wood.

A master of the trade.
If you want to use wooden planes, or simply want to learn about age-old tools that are still very much in use, this is a must-have book to start with.

Go-to Resource on Wooden Planes
This book is the most comprehensive information source on wooden planes that I've ever read. This book really helps in sorting out the myriad of moulding/molding plane profiles, which most of us find so confusing. Highly recommended for tool collectors, historians and museum curators.

Greatest Resource for Plane Profiles
I was taken aback by the thoroughness of the research presented in this book. If you ever wanted to know the difference between an astragal and an ovolo, here's your chance. This thing is packed with every conceivable molding plane profile, from the simple to the extremely complex. It's going to take some time to digest all of this wonderful information, but I'm going to love every minute of it. I'm grateful to have found such a resource.

An exceptional book for the American/English plane collector.
An abundance of information. A relentless landscape of pent up plane knowledge that is now in my hands. The possibilities are endless!! I highly recommend this book for anyone with a love of woodies like me! Exceptional illustrations and detail regarding all of the difference styles of planes. This book focuses on American and English planes, so if you want a book about continental or even Japanese planes, this is most definitely not for you.

Extremely complete
Content wise, this is as close to impeccable as any technical book ever got. This is not a how-to book as much as it is a collection of an immense number of plane types, historical details and use.I cannot give it a higher rating, not by lack of merit of the author, but due to the deplorable shape the book arrived in. Just wish I could separate the rating of the book from that of the service provided.
