Monte Pollino (6 pack) Pesto Sauce (Basil) 9.9oz jars from Italy

This product's description is deceptive. It says "Made with Extra Virgin Olive oil, Parmigianno Reggiano & pinenuts" When the Pesto arrived, I discovered that the second ingredient is sunflower oil. Olive oil is only the fifth ingredient (ingredients are listed in order of volume). Then the third largest ingredient is cashew nuts, not pinenuts. There are some pine nuts, but they are the 11th ingredient. There is more salt in this pesto than pinenuts! Finally there are a bunch of extra ingredients including sugar (glucose syrup), potatoes and some additives such as an "acidity regulator" and "flavoring" and "an "antioxidant agent". I have no idea what some of these ingredients really are.As for flavor, it is just OK. I like a really strong basil flavor, and this is somewhat diluted by all of the extra ingredients. It seems impossible to find a truly traditional pesto that is made with just basil, olive oil, cheese and pinenuts. I wish I had not ordered a case of this impostor.I gave it two stars because the seller was very accommodating and offered me a full refund.

I bought a single jar on clearance at HomeGoods and was so pleasantly surprised by the full-bodied flavor and quality of the sauce I immediately needed to find more and say a giant thank you to the folks at Monte Pollino. Thank you!!! May this be the start of a long and delicious romance.
