Having the same flavor as _Schott's Original Miscellany_, _Food and Drink Miscellany_ is a veritable smorgasboard of information and trivia related to edibles. Topics range from the handy and helpful ("Cheers!" in 32 "languages", English to American food terms, Biblical food abominations, how to sharpen a carving knife), to the humourous (94 slang words for drunkeness, Swift's wind and the Comic cookery book) to the truly bizzare (why asparagus makes urine smell, favorite food and drink of the Bay City Rollers).Great fun to read, it would be a hit with anyone who loves to cook, is a fan of meals or drinks with gusto.

This is a delightful little tome, full of useful and interesting facts that will appeal to any foodie. It's not the sort of book that you read cover-to-cover; you pick it up, read a couple of items (and guffaw, Harumph, or get a bright idea depending on what you read), and set it down to the next time. While little of this is stuff you HAVE to know, plenty of it will make you say, Oh, Cool!I know that it's really tough to pick out a cookbook for a friend who's really into cooking. This is a wonderful (and inexpensive) alternative that's sure to make someone smile.

There's something wonderful about an assortment of meandering wisdom and factoids in our environment of SO VERY TARGETED SPECIFIC information. I got lost while flipping through the pages, but being able to know how to ask for the bill in Latvian or morse code, or the specifics of tea-grading nomenclature? I feel so very, very miscellaneous! In a wonderfully specific way. :)

its just a book full of random facts about food, food preparation, food safety, food cooking techniques etc... I love it

This is a hard book to review because, as the title implies, it's a bunch of miscellany. Perfect for anyone who likes random facts. Especially apropos for dinner icebreakers.

Have purchased before- makes a great gift for a foodie! I look forward to reading the whole thing myself this year.

Good product, as advertised; good price; good service. What's not to like?

Wanted to buy this as a present, I already have a copy and find it is a book I find full of interesting and fascinating facts on food and drink that I often refer to often. Ideal for any foody. I think it must be out of print as I ordered one that had been used. Very good condition and really good value. Great little book

Really strange how people absorb trivia, these are packed full an definitely worth owning, spent hours in the littlest room reading these.

There is a lot of stuff in here which is also in the original miscellany, and there are a lot of "oh,OK" snippets and not so many "wow" ones. Worth a read though just for the wow bits.
