Back sleepers only
The inside of this mask is highly sculpted out of fairly rigid foam. The eye cups are deep, which is nice if you've got long eyelashes like I do. The problem is that the cups are also fairly narrow, and the rims of the cups are fairly hard. If it's placed perfectly on your face it's not a problem, but if it slips just a little out of position--which it will if you sleep on your side or on your stomach--the rims of those narrow cups wind up pressing on your eyes. Not comfortable, and not healthy. On the good side, it is a decent-sized mask with plenty of adjustment. I'm a big guy, and the mask was big enough and the strap had enough adjustment. If you sleep on your back, this might be your mask. But avoid it if you sleep on your side or your stomach.

Not good for CPAP
There are many valid reasons to want an eye-mask. And this mask is comfortable, made of sturdy material, and pretty good. But I looked in Amazon for a mask to protect my eyes while using a CPAP, and this is the only mask in Amazon that advertised to be "great for CPAP users". And this I find to be incorrect. This is not a feature that should be advertised for this mask.CPAP users are people who have some disorder in their respiratory system that requires raising the air pressure in which they breathe while they sleep. It can be caused by obesity, but that is not the case in the majority of patients. In the absence of the CPAP machine, they suffer near-asphixia as soon as they reach REM sleep, for several times per night (in my case, it was over 15 times an hour), which causes a number of physical and psychological disorder. The machine provides a painless, effective and very needed relief to deep sleep deprivation. The one uncomfortable side-effect of the CPAP machine is that if there is often an air leak (and there is one often if you shift, or if your skin is oily, or if you do not place the apparatus perfectly right). The air leak on your eyes can be uncomfortable and damaging.I bought this mask for that purpose, and following the testimonial in the webpage. I figured that if the webpage was the only one claiming it was good for CPAP, it probably had some shape and padding features that would specifically help in this dimension. It turns out that this is not correct. To begin with, the elastic in the mask is not strong enough to provide sufficient tightness, so there is always a little whole through which the air leaks into the mask (and keeps moving around there!). Furthermore, the shape of the mask does not seal completely in the vicinity of your nose. Finally, the eye-mask has this little liner that is supposed to go over your nose...and that acts as an obstacle to almost every brand of CPAP mask (I have several). So, if you are buying this to block the light, go ahead. The thing is pretty, comfortable and durable. But if you are buying it for the reason I did, don't. Spend $3 at the pharmacy on getting two separate protective eye patches (like a pirate's), and use them simultaneously. It works MUCH better.

Best I've found
I think I bought my 1st one at a brick & mortar store. I had it for 3 years before having to replace it and searched Amazon for this specific one. I made the mistake of washing it in the washer which made the lining come completely loose, so hand wash only. Otherwise I strongly believe it would have lasted even longer. It's soft, comfortable and yes, the Velcro caught in my hair at first, but once it was broken in, that issue went away. It also rubbed my ears at first, but that too quickly went away.Total blackout eyemask! And the shape of them protects my lash extensions from being pulled off, mishaped, or damaged in any way. I can open my eyes & blink without the lashes touching the mask. I do not have extra long lashes though, so I can't speak to that aspect. The purple color looks nice and is the same as the photo, with a black line design going across it.I use them frequently at home, on airplanes, hotels, etc. They don't shift around on me at all. They may have at first, but I don't recall.Would recommend for sure!

Remember to take them off when trying to find the bathroom at night!
Here's the funny thing about eye masks - the target market is already a picky bunch. So I bet that's a drag on the reviews. These are obviously a good quality product. The headband is great and feels like it's giving your head a nice little hug. Gentle little head hugs will relax you! The eye cups are great because I never feel my eyelashes touch, but they add a little rigidity so when you side sleep the pillow pushes them up and out of place, so they're not only not useful, but not comfortable in that position. I think I'll have to try a more pliable style. At night I sleep on my side, but I sleep on my back for naps, which are in the daytime, so these should work great. As others have mentioned the nose bridge allows light to come in, but I bet that's different for different noses. And it only makes a difference if you're trying to sleep in a bright room. But other than that it blacks everything out, so I'm sure I'll be fine.Anyway, it's a good product but I think they could work out these design flaws. If this review has been helpful please let me know.

Comfy mask, some flaws with my crazy hair.
Update: 7/26/2016 one of the side straps broke off. This is Velcro, so I woke up in the middle of the night and had to rip my hair out of the Velcro. The nose does not entirely fit my nose snug (I have a wider nose, Native American) so there's a small gap of light that comes in. For me, I can't deal with the Velcro knotting my hair up, even though it was in a braid. I will use it one more night and see if it keeps happening. I do like the size & how I can open my eyes. It's comfy, too! Excellent customer service as well!

Not great for people with curly hair
My only complaint with this product is the velcro connector. It invariably gets caught in my hair with each use and I always end up pulling some of my hair out. Because it has a velcro connector instead of an adjustable strap, I can never get it tight enough to get the mask to lay flush on my face to block out all light. I would give this product a 5 if not for the velcro connector. I'm not sure if people with straight hair have the same problem, but it is not ideal for tight curls. I really like the eye mask itself, but I would not buy this product again. I would try to find a comparable eye mask design with an adjustable strap.
