Good overall history but not a Home Run
Good but not great collection of photos and stories on 100 years of NY Yankees history. Divided up into decades, each chapter has two pages of newspaper cover reprints, but they’re small. The 1920’s thru the 1960’s get fewer than twenty pages each despite the amount of history made in those years. Almost all of the photos thru the 1980’s are black and white. There are many familiar pics of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMag, Mantle , Yogi, Casey and Ford, and a few of their teammates. Occasionally a rarely seen photo will appear. Each chapter also contains a reprinted News story or two about an historic game, such as Babe’s called-shot homer, Gehrig Appreciation Day, Larson’s perfect game, Maris’ 61st homer, etc. Many of the pics from the 70’s thru the 2000’s seem run of the mill to me. There are some great ones however, like Stengel having his # 37 retired at Old Timers Day in 1970. Whitey and Yogi are standing next to him, and curiously, Yogi is wearing a uni with the 1969 100th anniversary of baseball logo on the sleeve. The 1990’s get the most coverage, with 46 pages devoted to that era. Jeter, Torre, Bernie, et al get their due. The 2000 Series gets an article, there’s a very nice shot of the New Stadium opener, and Jeter’s final home game is covered. A couple of goofs include the Polo Grounds being misidentified as Yankee Stadium in the 1940’s, and a photo of Babe Ruth Day in ‘47 is captioned as June ‘48 when his #3 was retired. There are also two photos of CC Sabathia with his mouth wide open, a shot of two female Yank fans with their faces painted, and for some reason a shot of a guy making a pizza as part of a NY vs Texas bet. Again, a good book which touches on a lot of history, but not the definitive Yanks photo book. It would have to be twice as long.

My son-in-law loves me more.
I was very impressed when I received this. It was a Christmas gift for my son-in-law who loves the Yankees. I wasn't sure if he would like it. Well , I had to call him 3x to come to the dinner table because he was deep into it.
