Matt Monro sounding excellent!
I appreciate a compilation where the producers don't skimp on the selections. This CD would suffice for a deep appreciation of Matt Monro and his unsurpassed gift. I own 3 other Matt Monro albums, but this is the best. It was shipped quickly and seemed new! An ultimate treat!

Love This Man's Voice
I guess he's considered a British Frank Sinatra. Although overall I don't really see him as a match for Old Blue Eyes, taken him on his own merit, he's quite good. I really appreciate his somewhat laid back, easy style. There's a couple of songs here that Sinatra also recorded, and I compared them. Frank belts them out, using all of his vocal tools for emphasis. Matt delivers them in a very pleasant, assured manner, but doesn't maul the tunes. It lead me to believe that when Frank Sinatra sang a song, it was all about him singing that song. When Matt Moro sings it, it's about the song. He is but a component with the music and the melody, and the overall effect is is quite beautiful. Being an American, I was only familiarwith a four songs on this disc. But I still put it on and listen to it all the way through.

The Ultimate Matt Monro
Matt Monro's "The Ultimate" CD is a must to have. His soothing, soft voice is very calming and his upbeat songs are great too. I recommend it highly.

Sheer Perfection.
He had a voice that was so clear, so perfect, like running water in a stream. Not big,not overwhelming, but a voice you couldn't help but listen to and feel good about hearing.Matt Monro's hit "Portrait Of My Love" is flawless. The music, the arrangement, the backing, the interpretation, and the singing of - just sheer perfection, and it sets the tone for the whole album. He had a huge world wide hit with "Born Free" (the story of the Lioness cub,Elsa) in fact Munro could sing anything. In his way, he was as good with interpretation and intonation as was the great Sinatra, and Frank thought so, too - singling Monro out for praise on more than one occasion.Dead at only 54, thank God he has left us with so many wonderful memories.
