Awesome pruners
Easy to use as it is a ratchet. I wish I owned these years ago. I highly recommend them. They cut through 2 inch limbs with ease and stay sharp. Great for folks with carpal tunnel. This pruner was recommended to me by several persons who belong to a herbal and garden association. The only drawback I found was that the cover for where you put the oil in falls off at times. The cover is brightly colored so you can see it it falls off which I though was a smart of the prune design.

Great tool, better than great warranty
Purchased shears 4 years ago during lockdown. I can echo all the positive reviews about quality and ease of use that you would expect from a top of the line product. What I wasn’t ready for was the customer service provided by Ironwood Tools. First, let me say that I live on acreage and have used these shears a lot! Twice I have had problems with parts breaking (spring) or a spring nut popping off the ratchet/blade. A call to the 800 number quickly resulted in a replacement being sent and friendly hints on how to best affect the repair. Today, I called because the return spring had broken and was supplied with a new spring covered under their 5year tool warranty…5years! And during this call I was reminded that the tool has a lifetime replacement-at-half price coverage. Unheard of in this day and age. I’m just sorry that at my age, lifetime isn’t as long as it once was. Definitely coming back for more,

Cuts small branches amazingly well
I bought one of these years ago at a Garden Show, and they were amazing. They reduce the need for larger awkward loppers, because the ratcheting feature works so well on larger branches. My old pair finally wore out after about a decade--probably because I am a left-handed user, which can pull the blades apart over time. But I loved them so much I found them on Amazon and ordered a new pair. The picture shows my old shears--which held up amazingly well, and the new ones I just bought.

Best, sturdiest, most powerful clippers I’ve ever owned!
Well worth the extra cost above any other option. Cuts through most anything the jaws open wide enough to fit around. Compact enough to fit in my saddle bag to use it to clear trees & branches in our way. Does the work of long handle pruners. Ratcheting action increases power for my early arthritic hands.

Would recommend - Purchased a second.
The blade chipped but fortunately they do sell a replacement. Not sure if it was me or the thinness of the blade or a combination of both me and the blade thickness. But in any event they work great and easy on the hands.

Best pruning shears EVER!
I have been an avid gardener for years and pruning is a gardening chore you must know how to do. A friend of mine gave me a pair of these years ago and I couldn't believe how they made pruning MUCH easier! The fact that they ratchet is what makes them easy to use and not hard on your pruning hand! I now have four pair of them. Two for our home and two at our beach house. A must have if you garden. And a great gift for a gardening friend.

Easy to use, even with arthritic hands.
This is a review of the Ironwood Professional Series Ratchet Pruner, model # IW-1405. Let me begin by saying that I’m in my 70’s, and I have arthritis in my hands, so it’s become a bit painful trying to squeeze a non-ratchet pruner, when cutting through a half inch or larger branch. I own several pruners, but this is the first ratchet pruner I’ve ever used, so I couldn’t wait to get out and put it through it’s paces. I went right to a branch measuring about 5/8” in diameter. I positioned the pruner so that the branch was far back on the pruner’s blade and anvil as possible. To test the ratcheting mechanism, I squeezed the grips just enough to permit the cutting blade to slightly bite and hold onto the branch. Then I backed off on the pressure before squeezing again. I had intended to squeeze three times, to get the job done, but by the second time, after applying slightly little pressure, these pruners sliced through the branch like I was cutting one that was a quarter the size. The operation was smooth as silk, and the cut was effortless and clean. The ratchet mechanism is part of the coated, replaceable cutting blade. The main body (i.e., the grips) are aluminum, making them lightweight but sturdy. The upper handle has a non-slip, rubber-like surface over the aluminum. The only plastic on these pruners are the double-sided slide lock, and the grip of the tiny, oil soaked, cleaning pad, which attaches to the lower handle. The slide lock is on both sides of the lower grip, so it’s easily accessible by either a right- or left-handed person. The slide lock engages the back of the one-piece blade and ratchet. It engages easily by squeezing the grips to the closed position and sliding the plastic locking device forward; this can be accomplished with one hand. Would I recommend this pruner to a friend? You bet I would, even if my friend didn’t have arthritis.
