Informative
Good information if you are new to CCTV and are looking to get a better understanding of the technologies deployed in the various CCTV surveillance systems. The writer is writing from a European perspective, referencing communication standards, CCTV standards and organizations based in the UK. However, the information presented is still relevant in the USA.

Good basics
Having purchased this book to get a better grasp of the technology underlying my job in surveillance, I found that it was a good basic introduction. For those of us in the USA some of the writing and references may seem a bit unfamiliar. Mr. Cieszynski's covering of topics such as CCDs, ground loops and camera technology was most enlightening. The networking and digital coverage he provided seems to be a bit half hearted. That may be from the fact that I have spent 10+ years in computers and have my Honeywell NVR training. He also doesn't cover some of the things a technician may well wish to know such as the different telemetry systems (Sensornet, rs422, Manchester) or the different equipment and methods of getting the telemetry to and from the cameras. I would recommend this book for people that need the basics and don't do gaming surveillance in Nevada.

Just What I Needed
Having been asked to bring all CCTV maintenance "in house" by my company I purchased this to give me a "heads up". Just what I neded, informative, simply explained and easy to follow. A useful addition to the tech library

More than you ever wanted to know about CCTV
What an amazing book - of course there are some parts where your eyes glaze over and you wonder what on earth they're talking about. However, when you go back and read it again, it will click into place and the way the author(s) explain their subjects is excellent.Among the amazing things I learned from this book are the effects of long video signal cabling - why you shouldn't have kinks in the wire (not immediatly obvious until you read the book!) - the difference between CATx series network cables and exactly "what" plus "why" is a "twisted pair" - the exact way the different compression methods work - the way the camera captures light and colour and many other fascinating aspects of CCTV and everything it encompasses - INCLUDING a great expose of DVR's and how they work. It's a great book and I can't think why anyone would need any others.

CCTV
and how to understand it. A bit arcane and I really wanted something a bit closer to my peculiar needs, hence just four stars.
