Well Done!
Jim has produced a timely, informative, and well-written volume. He addresses very effectively the integration and balance of mind, body & spirit necessary for older mommies-to-be. I especially enjoyed the short case studies: first-person accounts of his clients while on their own fertility journey. From an ecological/biological point-of-view, when the environment contains too many things stressing the population (whether that population is prairie dogs or humans), often the effect of those stressors is first seen in the ability to reproduce, or more accurately the lack of the ability to reproduce. Modern society has tossed quite a few 'big' stressors at its human population, including endocrine-disrupting pesticides that mimic estrogen in the body, endocrine-disrupting residues from plastics leaching into our food because we lazily heat everything in plastic in the microwave, increasing incidence of food allergies & food intolerance, high levels of stress because of work, personal life issues, and just LIFE issues in general. The list goes on and on. Combine those with women putting off child bearing until their later years, and you have a recipe for reproductive disaster.Jim offers hope for many in the midst of all those stresses, who desperately want children and who either don't want to start down the ART/IVF route, or those who have already gone that route and and who are hoping to find another way to work with, assist, and strengthen the body. Often, docs will refer an older woman for ART/IVF based on age alone, although no tests have been done on hormone levels or the health of the eggs. Addressing the mind, body, and spiritual issues place as much control as possible back with the mommy (and daddy) to be. And considering that the highest stress levels of all occur because of things out-of-our control, this is a very good thing indeed.Jim only touched on the energy healing aspects of this integrated approach, but it is also (IMHO) a very important part of re-balancing the body and helping to clear the endocrine system, which the chakras work with intimately. Other things that also help with this are dietary changes, daily meditation (his 10-minute visualization is a perfect example), daily Qi Gong, and adapting other helpful practices that make you feel BETTER, body, mind & spirit.MelodieCertified Clinical HypnotherapistCertified Reiki Master TeacherCertified Karuna Healing Master TeacherCertified Integrated Energy Therapy Advanced PractitionerTriquetra Therapy (tm) CreatorBS Biology (ecology concentration), Chemistry minor[...]

Philosophy that works
My husband and I had trouble getting pregnant for years. It occurred to me more often than not that both of us were healthy and it shouldn't be this difficult to get pregnant. I started to realize that it was my mind that was preventing me from getting a positive pregnancy test. This book was essential in my transition between the reproductive center where we were being 'treated' back to my normal life. It made me realize that it was my brain that was holding me back from getting pregnant. There are some parts of the book that you might take with a grain of salt, but overall it was a helpful tool for me.I found a hypnotherapist in my area that is very good and had a couple of sessions. This hypnotherapy essentially took my mind completely off the stress that I created around getting pregnant and I was able to get back to the great life my husband and I have made. This was in August. On January 20 we found out that we were pregnant and I'm due in 5 weeks. Do not underestimate the power of the mind body relationship.

I'm a believer!!
I have been struggling with fertility problems for a little over a year. Started taking several medications to try to conceive, was going for acupuncture and doing yoga all the time and it didnt seem to work.I was about to undergo IVF when I decided to try one last option. I decided to visit a hypnotherapist to help me work with my subconscience and try to help me use my mind to take control of my fertility. She recommended that I buy this book to help me understand a little more how my mind could effect my body's ability to conceive. I read the book in a day, I couldn't put it down. I realized right away that without even knowing it, I was standing in the way of us getting pregnant because my mind and thoughts were blocking conception. To make a long story short I got the book June 2nd and found out I was pregnant June 17th. This book helped me so much. I do have to say though, you have to have an open mind to reap the benefits of its message. I recommend this book to anyone who has been stuggling with infertility. It will certainly help you feel more in control and put you on the right path to having a baby.

Might Help Others - But I Returned It!
In hopes of being fair, I'll start out with what was good about the book.First, he includes some helpful meditation/visualization sections. These are pretty standard-issue, and I'm afraid that I'll be giving away the essence of them when I say that he encourages you to picture conceiving, the blastocyst growing, the implantation, the wonders of pregnancy and you holding your baby. If you can do that everyday, you've done all the work that I found useful in the book.Second, he points out that some of us have baggage that might be causing stress that undermines our ability to get pregnant. He breaks this down. If you are interested in learning more about that, buy the book.Bad things? Well, the idea that women's subconscious thoughts are holding them back from allowing themselves to get pregnant upsets me. I guess for some people that would be empowering, for me it seems creepy. It reminds me of the idea that women can prevent themselves from getting pregnant if they are raped by "shutting the process down". That's nonsense, so why is it not nonsense in this context? I think that some people on the journey to conceive want as many ways to try to address their infertility as possible. He certainly gives another way: figure out what your SUBconscious baggage is and work on it.Which leads me to the worst thing about the book. It feels like an ad for hypnotherapy and Mayan uterine massage. At least 3 times he says that rooting out these negative feelings can't be done through regular therapy, psychotherapy will take many years, and the best way to do it is hypnotherapy. Well, he's not a doctor, and not a psychologist. But he IS a hypnotherapist.Since I have no interest in spending money on hypnotherapy, this book was not for me. At all.

The Mind-Body Fertility Connection: The True Pathway to Conception
Authoritative, clear and concise. This book takes the reader on a journey into the problem, through the underpinning causes (considered from several perspectives) and then describes in a deeply compassionate way a clear path toward healing.Easily accessable, no doubt I will be referring to this book again and again in the coming years.

Truly helpful on the pathway to conception
One of the best books I've ever read on infertility. Without ignoring or devaluing the highly clinical approaches usually applied in modern medicine, the author manages to nevertheless make clear the vital importance of the often-neglected psychological and spiritual aspects of this condition and presents well-founded alternative methods for incorporating these into any kind of treatment. I certainly hope that the information he provides in this book will continue to spread and allow more and more women the chance to make more considered choices rather than being pushed by uninformed doctors into the often very one-sided and depressing lottery that is the reality of many IVF-Programs.
