Check this first before ordering a new speed control assembly
It doesn't make much sense since my mixer stopped while it was mixing. In the image, the blue line outlines a switch. I didn't notice this until I replaced it with the new speed control and I decided to remove the four screws so I could take a look at the back of the board to see if there was an obvious problem. It was then that I noticed the switch. I used a screwdriver to push down on the switch, but then it sprung upward. The spring inside the switch should force the button to be in the up position (shown in the image) when the speed control is in any position but off, but mine was stuck down. When your mixer is in the off position, the white plastic slider goes over the switch and presses it down. When you move the slider to any other position, the white piece moves off and the switch springs to the up position, allowing power to go to the motor. I am not sure how the switch got depressed and then stuck while the mixer was running, but that is what happened to me. You do not have to remove the assembly to check the switch. Use a toothpick (with the mixer unplugged of course) and press down/wiggle the switch to ensure it works. You should hear/feel a faint click when you depress and release the switch.Kind of mad I did not look into it better as I could have gotten the mixer up and running several months ago.

helped immensely!
The new switch not only remedied the issue of my mixer not starting when it was put in the lower numbered gears, but also somehow seems to have quieted the motor. My mixer had always seemed louder than any other KitchenAid of the same capacity that I had ever worked with (I've been in the baking profession for 12+ years so I have seen quite a few!) But, since my husband replaced the switch, it seems to be much quieter, and not sound like it is being 'overworked' nearly as much. My mixer itself is 8 yrs old or so, and works just like new now! Way better to buy the switch and at least try that for a fix than to spend $100's on a new mixer!

I think I liked the black better
Original speed control knob was black, this one is grey. I think I liked the black better, but its a minor thing. Control board swap out was simple, just make note of what is disconnected as the new connection points may be different (everything labelled clearly, ie "Motor 1").

Works in a model KP26M1XDP
I'm adding the specific model number of my 6 quart 575W model in case somebody's searching because I couldn't find a definitive yes or no answer before I decided to take a chance. Like many other people have mentioned, the pin-outs on the new board are not identical to the old one, so you have to take note of what was connected to what and find the same labels on the new boards. A lot cheaper than buying a new one.

Works for model KG25H3XSL
Works perfectly for model KG25H3XSL. Needed to replace a broken switch, but ended up having to buy this whole board, since it’s not sold separately. After lots of reviews, was hoping that this was going to work, and it did. So happy to have my mixer back and working.

KITCHEN AID IS REALLY BAD
I bought my KitchenAid Stand Mixer in 2008 after having had an Osterizer for over 20 years. Because the KitchenAid can't do the things my Osterizer did it never got the constant use my Osterizer did for those 20 years. The machine wasn't even a year old, and the speed control was no good...going from 5 speeds to 2...fast and turbo! I have replaced the speed control every year since. I could have bought a new stand mixer by now...one that actually works without aggravating me. Mostly this machine sits on my counter taking up space and the couple of times a year I try to use it, it breaks down. It is a horrible machine! This year, the speed control lasted TWO MINUTES ONLY!! While creaming a stick of soft butter for cookies, the control went crazy AGAIN, and I had butter all over the place. I wound up mixing all my Christmas cookies by hand this year. I will not buy another speed control. I am saving to buy a stand mixer from any other company but KitchenAid!!

Part looked great but didn't fix our problem.
Would rate higher but the part didn't work to fix our mixer. Can't rate something that didn't work! Not sure if it's the part or our mixer and can't find anyone to fix it.
