The Art of Polymer Clay Millefiori Techniques: Projects and Inspiration for Creative Canework

Highly recommended for artists with serious interest in polymer clay
A Donna Kato book is always a worthwhile investment. If you've ever "ooh"-ed and "ahh"-ed over the canework of renowned polymer clay artists and wondered how to replicate it, you will be thrilled with this goldmine of techniques. As always, Kato provides clear, concise information and provides visual aid. The book opens with helpful discussions on polymer clays, tools, the handling and storage of canes, and design concepts (like color theory). Techniques used in caning are explained (i.e. Skinner blends) so that there is no mystery in the following chapters on caning. Caning techniques begin with simple canes, the building blocks of the complex canes covered through the remainder of the book. Each caning lesson is accompanied by a project. The projects vary in nature, and their construction is also clearly explained.Kato delivers all she promises and more in this book.Highly recommended for artists with serious interest in polymer clay.

This is a Must Have Book
After having taken an online tutorial by Ms Kato, I discovered and purchased this book. I am so glad I did. It is beautifully photographed and well written. I found the instructions to be clear and concise. I strongly urge you to read each chapter as the very techniques we love are sometimes incorporated into the following projects. I was so excited that I just dove right in making squiggly beads only to learn that my skinner blend plug was rolled the wrong way and my squiggly bead looked nothing like the photograph. That experience taught me a valuable lesson. This book is packed with information and my head is filled with all kinds of inspiration. This is definitely one of the more valuable books in my collection.

The Art of Polymer Clay Millefiori Techniques
I already had Donna Kato's first book and wasn't sure why I would need another one or if it would have much "new" stuff that I didn't already find in the first book. However, I had read some great reviews from members in my clay group and decided to get the new one. What a wonderful book! For those of you that are failry new to caning or millefiori, you will LOVE this book.If you have always admired Donna's work and wondered how she got such lovely results then you will want this book. She doesn't just give you tiny tidbits to help you "almost" know how to do something - she gives you the real thing! The lessons for her techniques are complete and the instructions are easy to follow. She doesn't leave you hanging about wondering about the 'rest of the technique'.There were many things in her book that I had wanted to know how to do and she did not disappoint. She is very generous in sharing her knowledge. The price is extremely reasonable and it is worth every penny and more. I would recommend this book to my best friend or ANYONE that loves polymer clay!Michele "luny" Holley

Gorgeous and creative
I love the pictures and project ideas. The step-by-step takes a bit, as some projects leave out steps in words that are better covered by the gorgeous pictures. I've found that I need to do things twice to figure out what I'm missing.Exceptional project ideas! So very creative and fun. Beautiful photography.I had to buy a chopper because I love the Van Gogh-esque treatment in one section.I have a dozen polymer clay books, and this is easily my favorite.

Takes the Complex and Makes It Simple
I am not a strong polymer clay artist, but I love Donna Kato books so I was excited to give this book a try. I cannot put it down and it is full of inspiration.A previous review states the book does not have clear instructions and pictures and I wonder if they have the same book I do. As a beginner I found many options available. I can also see where all levels would be inspired and challenged. The text and photography continue to inspire and the projects are amazing. There are many times I look at a project and say...I can't do that, but then read the directions/follow the step by step pictures and I am amazed at the results.I can now reduce a cane and make some fantastic items. This book is a definite treasure and I will probably buy a second in case something happens to the first!

Excited to get started!
This book gives a lot of info on on how to get started in polymer clay. Almost all the books I have have this info in it to some degree, but I like the fact that all the authors are so helpful and encouraging to new clay enthusiasts. The book is full of color pics and great instructions. The projects are broken down into easy to follow steps. I haven't tried any of the projects yet because I am still studying the process, but I can't wait to get going! I don't expect my first projects to look as good as the ones in the book, but with time I hope to develop the same skill level. This book will live in my craft studio next to my clay desk. I always want it to be handy.

Good Procedural Manual
Step by step descriptions of various techniques. Some were too complex for beginners, but there were lots that were appropriate. The jewelry in the illustrations looks seriously outdated, but I can put up with that for quality learning.

IMPRESSIVE, INSPIRING BOOK
I ordered this book because I wanted to have detailed visual instructions about allaspects of working with clay--as a beginner. I tend to want to start at the mostdifficult parts of learning a new skill--rather than working up to the highest levelof difficulty. I found this book made it very clear in the pictures and the verbalinstructions to be able to do that.I have been very pleased with my experiments with clay so far--following the instructions and becoming proficient at some of the techniques--has enabled me to take my own ideas and have the skills to implement them.I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in starting to work with clay as I am--or experienced people as well.I read all the reviews and was encouraged by them, and had a pleasant experience with my purchase.

Beautiful, clear instructions, interesting applications
I have almost every polymer clay book published in recent years, and this one is in my top two favourites. I love the designs Donna has included; the colours and applications are interesting and eye-catching, and the instructions are clear and simple. There are techniques here that I haven't seen elsewhere. A definite must-buy for the PC millefiori fan!

Bellissimo libro
Consigliatissimo!!
