Good, but not easy.
I like this product. It burns hot, clean and long. However, it is tricky to get going evenly. I found using a chimney, stacking the logs vertically, and using a torch helps get the coals going evenly which yields the best results. Otherwise the coals seem to not want to catch and you end up with some that catch, some that take 40 minutes to get going, and your coals are never really ready. Also, it’s not as much coal as it appears. You may have more burn time than standard charcoal, but the logs are dense and heavy. For just cooking a meal for 2, it’s not economical, but it is good quality.

Burns a looooong time!
Burns a looooong time. Filled a basket in my cheapo Chargriller offset smoker 12 hours ago and it is still at 250 degrees! Not a distinct smoke aroma so you should add your favorite Apple, Hickory, Oak, Mesquite, Pecan, cherry or other wood chips or chunks.

A nice charcoal but only in certain situations for me.
Box came undamaged. On inspection found a large amount had, of course, been crushed. Removed all the solid pieces and weighed the dust. About 3 1/2 lbs of dust were discarded. The rest as you can see from the pic were mostly all pretty good size.I had a mixed bag of results with these coals and will explain in depth so you will understand how I was using them. I have done 2 cooks with these guys. The first cook, a couple of spatchcocked chickens and some dogs just because, was on a 22" weber with a vortex. I used a half chimney of regular Kingsford with a good amount of Blazing Coco coals already placed unlit in a vortex. The lit Kingsford had no problem getting the Blazing Coco coals to light. I had a solid temp I was able to regulate pretty well. The first check was at 500 but I easily brought it down to 450 closing stuff off. Temps held at 450 for the whole cook. The only problem I had was getting them to go out. I closed off everything but they still didn't suffocate out.The second cook was a bit more problematic in my PBC that I run with a BBQ Guru DynaQ set for 225. Again half chimney, nice and washed was dumped on top of a basket full of Blazing Coco. MY Dyna Q had to cycle the fan quite a lot to get the Blazing coco to stay at that temp. It just seemed like without the extra boost it might have gone out. I should do a separate test when I don't have 3 racks of ribs going. The temps were also very strange. I had 3 half slabs on each side of the barrel. I side finished about 45 minutes before the other. I have never seen that before. Looking down the coals were doing a very uneven burn. Toward the end of that cook, I had sauced a rack and wanted to carmelize so I cranked up to 500. It rose slowly but once it was going at a high temp it was a champ. My thoughts, I'd use these guys in the weber anytime but don't trust them in my style of smoker. Maybe in a true offset, they might not have the issues I did.I had no extra flavor of coconut as some reported on either cook.

Didn't Light!
It Sucked don't buy.1) getting it lit is horrible.2) burns slow, but not very hot (150-160 in offset smoker)3) falls apart easily making a mess, clogging air.was really excited to try it, but it didn't work as advertised. I tried using it 3 time all with same outcome.

Good burn and doesn't fall apart for the next cook
Edit - creates a lot of ash. Also takes forever to get started. Dropping a star. This is an interesting lump charcoal. Has a really good even heat - better than a standard lump. Stuff is also really dense! Feels like my plastic pail weighs twice as much with this product in it compared to Royal Oak, Because it is so dense, it takes about twice as long to get lit and ready for cooking than standard lump - need to give it a bit more time.Only ding (other than light time - if that matters to you, is it comes in a bag, in a box and then in another box. Would be great if the could reduce packaging.
