I grew up with the NBA
Few people will remember that at one time in the early 50s Indiana had three teams in the NBA which started play in 1949. The three were the Anderson Packers, the Indianapolis Olympians and the Ft. Wayne Pistons. While growing up in Marion in central Indiana I was able to attend several games during this development stage of the NBA. I was disappointed the book did not have more info about the early years. For example, Frankie Brian, a former All-American guard from LSU, played for Anderson and was a great player, but his name is not mentioned. Bill Tosheff from Indiana University played in early games for NBA teams. He testified before congress to help get pensions for NBA players. I remember my PE teacher in the ninth grade asked boys what they wanted to do when it was time to earn a living. I said, "I want to play in the NBA." The teacher said, "Norm, those guys don't make much money." Things sure have changed in the NBA haven't they? I recall former NBA star Alan Iverson turned down an 8 million dollar offer one year. When asked why, he said, "I have a family to support.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about how the NBA became the exciting sport it is today.Dr. Norman Jones author of Growing Up in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited

Awesome book
I gave this book as a Christmas present for my nephew and he loved it. He spent all Christmas Day reading and looking at the pictures. It’s a nice thick book with some really neat pictures. The book is well priced and looks and feels like a nice quality book. It was a hit for a Christmas gift. Would definitely buy again if I ever need to give a gift for a basketball fan.

Very good historical review of the professional game
Very thorough history of the game, not just the games themselves but also covers important moments such as the player strike before the 1964 ASG and Magic’s HIV announcement. Covers enough of the stars both past and present day to make it a very good book about the NBA.I was rather disappointed in the editor’s review because the book shot some air balls with a few key dates and outcomes. It says the Bulls beat LA in 6 games in 1991 Finals, it was actually in 5. The Lakers defeated the Sixers in 2001 (not ‘02) and the Nets in 2002 (not ‘01). It may be nit picky but these types of things shouldn’t be wrong. Perhaps the rush to publish before the NBAs 75th season in 2021-22 led to an expedited reviewed. It was surprising that a short summary of the helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter, and friends made it into the book.
