Works great with the WiiU HDMI signal (need to downmix for streaming). It actually changes the output of the HDMI to 2-channel stereo downmix as well, so if you're output display device has audio-out you're already using, you don't need to use the stereo out on this device itself (unless you want a second copy of that stereo downmix for something).

I used this equipment to hook up my laptop with my av receiver. I only had an hdmi out from my laptop and my av receiver cannot process sound from hdmi cable. Therefore I needed to separate the digital sound from hdmi and send it to my av receiver via a coaxial or optical cable. I used a coaxial cable but the equipment has optical cable out as well. I have 8 meters of cabling (high quality) between my laptop and av receiver. It works...Sound and vision is awesome.
