Wood Carving Tools Set, Hook Carving Knife, Detail Wood Knife, Whittling Knife, Oblique Knife, Trimming Knife for Spoon, Bowl, Cup or General Woodwork (Iron)

For a CHEAP beginner's set, I suppose this is OK. The Slojd and chip knives were razor sharp coming straight out of the "box". The detail and oblique knives needed some final sharpening and a good stropping to bring it to sharpness. The hook knife is a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT. Not only was it not sharp (there was visible light reflecting back along the edge). Also adding to the disappointment, the knife is single-edged and made for LEFTYs. That means if you're a righty, like me, you are pulling the blade into you when making cuts and that's inherently dangerous, especially with a knife this DULL. Speaking of dull, you need to sharpen most of the blades when you get them. Do yourself a favor and THROW AWAY the sharpening stone. The surface is WAY too rough to be touching the edge of all but the most damaged knives. This one has one face that's actually unusable as received. The strop is also substandard. It's low-grade split-suede that been bonded to (what looks like) rubber. It started to fall apart within seconds of using it. Find yourself an old leather belt with a suede back and you'll be fine. Oh, and wrap a piece of leather around a 1/2" dowel to strop the hook knife. After playing with the spoon blank that comes with the set (It's only big enough to make coffee scoop or kids eating spoon) I suggest you make yourselves a set of sheaths for the blades. The knife guards that come with the set only cover the tips of the knives. One last comment - these blades are stainless steel. They will never take a really fine edge, or keep one for long. It's just the nature of SS knives. Just strop often (more often than you think you need to) and get yourself a good 800-1000-grit stone. I prefer a hard Arkansas and it doesn't have to be much bigger than the one provided. Then don't be afraid to take the blade to it. A dull knife is an unsafe knife. ** 2stars ** EDIT: My opinion of the quality of the product still stands. After I wrote the above review, I was contacted by the sellers who apologized for the product quality. They also said that they took my review seriously and are trying to improve the product. They also offered to send me out a new set of tools. I can keep the tools I already have since I had taken considerable time sharpening the dull knives and honing them razor sharp. That is, except for the hook knife. That will take more time than I have right now. I'm eagerly awaiting the new shipment to find out if the next set in any better than the last. It does seem that the sellers are more interested in getting a good review than actually selling a good product. When I began communicating with them I told them that I was going in for surgery and would not be able to update this review until later. That still did not stop them from hounding me about the review. So, for sending a completely new set, I give them 5 stars. For hounding me to change my tune they get 1 star. So in the end, they get 3 stars for their service. If the new set is better than the last, the review may still go up - for now... *** 3stars ***

The ergonomic handles make this set easy to handle. Great for beginners or experienced carvers. The different blades are great for each project depending on the level of detail needed. I highly recommend this set, especially with the glove!!!

These knives are made of stainless steel and are of far greater quality than other comparably priced knives. Many entry level carving kits are made of cheap steel that rusts and will not hold an edge. It is often too thick to effectively carve detailed figures. These knives are the last carving knives I will ever have to buy.

I really like that this set is all in one roll up case that can be tied shut. No more having tools here and there. And straight out of the package, the tools are very sharp. I find the wooden handles to be quite comfortable in the hand and am looking forward to working on some spoons and also carving on wooden clothes hangers. I think the price is great for what you get.

Love the shape of the handles. There very comfortable in my hands. This is first carving set that I’ve bought and would buy it again in a second. I think there under priced for the quality of the tools that they are. I’ve spend probably 25+hrs using the smaller of the carving knifes and love it.

Optisch sieht es gut aus. Alle Messer sind leider unscharf, schlecht und falsch geschliffen. Als ich alle verbessert und nachgeschliffen habe, tuen sie was tuen müssen. Halten ihre Schärfe. Für diesen Preis kann man nicht meckern.
