Q: Can you put them in the wash?

I haven’t washed mine but I would think with a mild soap would be okay by hand or in a machine. So the soap doesn’t irritate your horses legs. I would secure the velcro closures but leave the boots open. Air dry

Q: I just opened mine and they smell of very strong spray paint, why is that?

It is not the smell of spray, it is the smell of neoprene. These boots are freshly made with fresh neoprene. Similar like a new carpet. It will go away in a day or two. Hope it helps.
