The Nuova Simonelli Oscar is a semi-automatic espresso machine which means that the barista has complete control over the brewing process. You must both start and stop the brewing cycle once you have dialed in your grinder and dosed and tamped the espresso grounds. Whether you desire 1 shot or 2the actual brewing process should take 20 to 30 seconds depending on your taste preferences. It is recommended that you own or purchase a grindersuch as the Grinta or comparable espresso grinder to complement your new Oscar. Like a commercial espresso machinethe Nuova Simonelli Oscar requires a precise grind setting to brew that sought after "God shot" of perfect crema topped espresso. They also included the coveted 3-Way solenoid valve which not only prevents excessive pressure but also releases built-up pressure at the end of brewing to dry the espresso puck and keep it from dripping. Boiler Protection Features To ensure long life and protection against over heating and burnoutNuova Simonelli built the Oscar's boiler with a safety feature called Auto-Refill. This system keeps an eye on the water level in the boiler and when the level falls below a certain pointthe computer controlled water level system automatically adds more water. If the machine should run out of water and the Auto Fill system was unable to refill the boilerthe computer will automatically turn the machine off to prevent overheating and damage to the heating element. It may not have the look of stainless steelbut it will never corrode; it is easy to clean and scratch resistant; and it hides fingerprints and dirt that quickly show on stainless steel. Its drip tray comes with a punch-out disk for hooking up a direct drip tray drainage line. Also the drip tray can be flipped over to accommodate both small and large cups. Water tank Power - 1200 W. - weight 14 Kg. Size: 300 x 400h x 400mm

Great machine, works like a charm for 2 1/2 years.
Have had this machine for about two and a half years. Used it daily. Makes great espresso drinks, and steaming milk is a breeze----as long as you know the steamer is powerful and takes ~15 seconds to work. Had no problems with it. The only minor complaint is the water container, which is a bit small and fiddly to pour water into. If you can, I'd suggest the version that connects to a water supply instead. It is a forgiving machine, forgiving of mistakes in coffee grind and packing. I have a difficult time making bad coffee with this one, a big contrast to the Gaggia Classico I used to have.
