DURABILITY PROBLEMS
UPDATE 6/14/2014Moving review to 1 star. I did purchase another one here we are again 2 months later and the plastic case is breaking in the top right corner by the buttons and the holster has cracked in the same place rendering it unusable. I've already ordered and received a Aduro Shell Holster Combo Case (which is less expensive by the way). The Aduro has the same basic design as the Puregear but the plastic seems sturdier. Hopefully it will last for the long rung.UPDATE: 4/3/2014Well, the case is now broken exactly where I thought is was going to - around the buttons. As planned, I purchased a new case and popped it into the old holster. Then yesterday the phone worked itself out of the holster onto the sidewalk in front of my house - happily it landed on the case side and not the screen side so no damage. However, I then noticed that the holster has cracked on the near the middle side where it flexes when the phone slides in and out - so it was loose in the holster and that is why it slipped out. I have now switched to the new holster as well. The plastic this is made of just doesn't seem to be as durable as it should - I would have expected it to last more than 3 months. I might try to see about whether I can get a replacement for the broken one - but not sure I want to mess with it or not.Dropping my review stars from 5 to 3 due the durability problems.UPDATE: 3/25/2014I've had this case now for about 3 months. The plastic has started to chip away in the upper right corner of the case around the phone - the belt clip & holster is still ok. I've not dropped the phone onto any hard surfaces that I remember that would have damaged the case. The plastic just seems to be cracking and falling off. So far is hasn't broken enough to really affect the overall protection just yet, but I can tell the next piece to break off will be around the power button - at which point I'll need to replace it.There is a 1 year warranty on it, but it requires you ship the case back to puregear and then wait for them to send a replacement back.I still like the case and everything else about it, so my plan is to just buy another one for $15 - at which point I'll have an extra belt clip as well in case that breaks in the future.==original review==I'm one of those guys who wants my phone clipped to my belt - so I have easy access to it. I've had this Puregear about a week so far. My last phone was a bionic and I had the Otterbox Defender - so going from that to the Moto X with this holster is like night and day as far as size and weight. This doesn't have the built-in screen protector like the defender had and I'm a little worried about that - I'll probably end up getting a screen protector film. The case itself is molded very nicely to my Moto X - it allows my custom accent colors to shine through around the camera and the buttons. The feel of the plastic is also very nice - not too hard, not too soft and has a nice looking texture. There is a slight raised edge to the front which holds the screen off the table a bit when laid flat screen side down. The case snaps on tight and feels like it is part of the phone following all the nice contours the moto x has. There are two unprotected edges on the case - along top and bottom front edges. The picture on Amazon does not show this. A drop impacting those 2 areas may damage the phone. I'm assuming this is a design tradeoff to make it work with the holster. The case weighs 7/8 of an ounce. The holster weighs 1 and 3/8 of an ounce. It slides into and out of the holster nicely and it feels very secure when in the holster. I can leave the charger plugged in and still insert and remove the phone from the holster. The belt clip works well (maybe a bit better than the defender) and really holds on. The top edge of the clip is a bit higher than the defender, which is nice for opening and closing it but it does dig into my side a bit sometimes. I had 2 of the defender belt clips break on me in my 2 years owning the bionic. I can't tell if this one will be any more durable just by looking at it.I tried out the kickstand and it was a bit stiff to close. That might work itself out over time. I don't really think I'll use the kickstand much so it doesn't matter to me.I've not dropped the phone yet (thank goodness) so no report on how it fares. I think as long as it doesn't get a direct blow to the screen or hit on one of the front unprotected edges that the case should do its job.Overall I'm very happy with the case/holster so far. I like the size, weight, fit, feel and how it makes it easy to carry and access my phone. It doesn't have the full protection of some other cases however and I hope that doesn't bite me when I have that eventual drop.

Small and solid
UPDATE 9/2014:The initial small crack turned into a chipped corner. Then the other corner cracked without any impact other than putting it down on my table. Then it chipped off. That was all within the first few months. It's been decent until recently with the area around the buttons cracked. It was never dropped, but it is taken out and returned to the case dozens of times per day.Today I had the phone in my shirt pocket, not very secure but it was temporary. I had to jump out of the way of an RC truck going 40+ mph and the phone came out and landed on the ground. It landed on a corner that was partially exposed by the limits of the case and also due to the first chip. Now the phone has a chip. Fortunately the screen is fine but a replacement Puregear case would leave that exact spot uncovered so it's time to change brands. I know I said in the original review I'd get another one but after noticing so many people with the same problem I'd rather spend half the money for a higher rated, more durable case.I dropped it to only 2 starts since 2 of the 3 cracks came without any trauma. It seems the plastic can't handle the stress of the phone and holster.Original Review:Pros: thin and relatively smooth, which is what I wanted. My previous case has the checkered type pattern -- it's the one available at Verizon and also here on Amazon. This one is definitely smoother.Con: The hard plastic and previously mentioned smoothness can make it a little slippery. It's also taken one fall and it the phone landed directly on the corner. This made a small crack in the case but the phone is fine. The crack is small and the corner is still protected so it doesn't have to be changed yet.I had originally purchased the hard plastic case from Verizon so I was able to look at them both side by side. Beyond the design, they are exactly the same. They even have the exact same stickers on them from what I assume is the exact same Chinese manufacturer. I like the way this one feels better, even if it is a little slippery, so I returned the other one to the store. When this one breaks after a few more drops, I'll replace it with the same case. I went through 2 of the other hard shell cases with my Droid X after dozens of falls over 3 years and the phone remains unscathed to this day. I expect the same from this one.

If You Need a Kickstand This is the Unit to Buy
I recently purchased a Moto X through Republic Wireless, a Sprint MVNO reseller, and needed a case. I always seem to purchase three cases for the phones I buy - one super thin case with minimal form factor, a larger ruggedized case, and a case with a kick-stand for watching movies/videos. I don't use the holster at all so that part is excluded from this review. I think this particular case is a nice option as it combines the kickstand aspect, with a rugged rubber shell, and adds some texture to the back. The case is not as thick as a rugged case so it still makes it easy to carry.Pros:Kickstand works (can be stiff at first but easier to use over time)Not too thick"Grippy" textureCons:It leaves some parts of the phone exposed such as the very top and very bottom front edgesThe case doesn't have a cut-out for the middle of the Moto-X back (where you place your index finger when using the phone)Limited color selectionI will look forward to this same type of case for all my phones in the future as it is a nice compromise between form and function.
