It's a perfect novelty gift. Yes, you can find the same information online... but can't you with any non-fiction book out there? For those who are complaining... IT'S A SCRATCH AND SNIFF BOOK FOR ADULTS - what did you really expect, a doctorate thesis on whiskey?The wheel (as others mentioned) is actually a very fun (somewhat useful) portion. I'll be scanning it in before I give the book away as a holiday gift, which a nice bottle to go with it of course.It's $14 - a scratch and sniff book, meant to make someone smile, and provide a little bit of info. Make no hesitation that this is all it's supposed to be- and for that/in that regard- it hits all the marks.

What do you do when you need a gift for a Scotch lover who has everything? We were initially dismayed to discover that our friend already had a 1928 Glengory Single Malt. We couldn't afford that treasure, but we were able to buy him this book instead. Even though we had to scratch a few pages to ensure that the essences were correct before gifting it to him, he reported that the majority of the smells were close to accurate. One warning, this book is NOT certified as a source by the Scotch Makers Institute. We would not recommend it if you are planning to use it prior to becoming certified as an industry spokesperson.

I got the wine book a couple of years ago and I remember that it was a great experience. This one was a little bit of a disappointment, maybe that was simply because it did not have this novelty factor for me. I felt that it did not have nearly as many smells as the wine one, although this can be just my memory of it, since I no longer have it to compare.Some of the smells are weird (cinnamon smells like bubblegum, ocean smells like soap), some do not work (malt and caramel smell like nothing at all).The content is great as an introduction for someone who has absolutely no idea about whiskey, but if you watch a couple of videos on YouTube, you’ll find nothing new in this book. Nevertheless, the illustrations are stunning and it can be a great gift (just make sure you do not give it to a whiskey lover, as they won’t be impressed).

Great basic reference for bourbon lovers. A quick short read. The scratch and sniff element is not really useful, but the author has a very impressive expertise and I learned a lot from the book.

Gave this to my boyfriend for Christmas as he's a fan of whiskey. It was a big hit at the family party because it is unique, fun and educational. Everyone wanted to play and read the books.(I also bought him the one about wine) All adults mind you. He has actually read the thing! And always tells me different tidbits about whiskey when we go out.

This is a fun little book idea. It's fairly simple in content (not completely unexpected, considering the context of a scratch and sniff book). The part that I was not impressed with is the smells were simple and numerous spots that were clearly designated were missing the scratch and sniff/scent component.

A brief overview of the various spirits from around the world. Gives direction as to what you will likely enjoy based on your individual tastes without so many random guesses.

Bought it as a graduation gift for my younger brother who admires Ron Swanson like no other and says that he wants to be like him. Obviously, you can't be Ron Swanson without knowing everything about a good whiskey and without being able to enjoy one like a real man. Even though this book doesn't tell you everything about whiskey, it's a great place to start. For any beginners out there wanting to get acquainted with one of the finest spirits, this is the place to start your journey to "becoming a whiskey know-it-all". There's no doubt that you should buy it and start enjoying life. And always remember that the safe word is "whiskey" (if you don't get this go watch Hot Rod, it's a funny movie)

In theory, an excellent book to give as a gift. Super disappointing when the person opening the gift sees a used / battered and bruised book. Bought this book along with the wine guide by the same author. Both were in a similar condition. Terrible experience.

What a great book! Really explains things clearly in a way that is as entertaining as it is educational. As soon as people see mine they are rushing out to order their own. Everyone picks it up off the coffee table immediately - this and Richard Betts' other S&S - The Essential Scratch and Sniff Guide to Becoming a Wine Expert.The smell seems to last quite a few scratches (I had memories of stickers on binders that had long since lost their smell . . .) the heavy cardboard format is totally appropriate given that most readers will likely have a beverage in hand.We're planning a whiskey (and whisky) tasting next month and we're definitely going to make this book the centerpiece of the event. Can't wait to see what he tackles next!

This is a such a fun product! My brother in law loved it! He is a big Whisky fan, and I really struggle to find him fun stocking fillers at Christmas. So this ticked all his boxes. Well worth a purchase for the Whisky lover in your life!
