Gear that is up to the task.
Platypod gear has worked well, as advertised, in the past. These goosenecks are no exception. They are well made, flexible and strong. They are a bit heavy for their size, but I do not think they would stand up to heavy use if they were much lighter. I use the goosenecks, along with cube lights for macro photography. A good investment as far as I'm concerned.

PLATYPOD GOOSENECKS SEEM TO STAY WHEREVER YOU PLACE THEM.
THE PLATYPOD GOOSENECKS SEEM TO STAY IN THE POSITION YOU HAD PLACED THEM WITH SMALL LIGHTS ATTACHED AFTER INITIAL TRY OUT. HOPEFULLY, THEY WILL HOLD UP UNDER USAGE FOR MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY.

Very Handy
I've used these mostly to hold a small flashlight when taking macro photos. They are fairly stiff which I find to be a good thing as the hold their shape well.

Great addition to the Platypod
The goosenecks are designed to stay in place, but they are fairly easy to manipulate. Easy to put them together for longer reaches, or you can attach one at the base of the other. Only complaint is that the silver adapter is very hard to unscrew--but it is very secure. =) Overall a good purchase.

Hard to bend, then won't stay in place
I purchased this to hold a pair of LumeCube lights in place for macro and other close-in photography. This seemed like just what I needed; in fact, the advertiser's images show a LumeCube-like pair of lights being held by the pair of goosenecks. The actual goosenecks' screwthread attachment system does not hold the neck well to the manufacturer's own Platypod bases; it's difficult to get them to fit snugly without tightening the entire system to a degree that when done, one has to use a pair of pliers to remove the connector from the Platypod base. The worst part of the design is the actual manufacture of the "necks" themselves. They are super stiff and a real challenge to bend. Trying to get the lights pointing even in the general direction of the subject--and one needs to be precise with macro work--is an exercise in frustration. At most you can do one gentle bend, so forget about controlling the desired height. Ok, one assumes, that stiffness means that once I have it bent, it's going to stay there, right? Wrong. Once you bend it, and think you have it pointed where you want it and let go, the neck springs back in a difficult-to-predict fashion, pointing randomly, well, somewhere else than you intended.Overall, poorly designed and implemented, and a product I totally can't recommend.
