Exactly as advertised
Works and functions well. Needed mostly for the storage capacity. The speed it offers for read and write is a plus. No more noise then normal out of my rig. Great value for the money.

bought by mistake but looks new
i was searching for a large HD for my POE NVR and i came across this device. Since it's a good price per TB, i just bought it. When i got it, it says it's certified refurbished which i thought this one wasn't. I usually do not like to buy refurbished hard drives ad they usually dont last long, especially for something like an NVR which is constantly recording. Anyways, they shipped it very quickly and it has a new label and the device was packed like it was a new product. The label says certified refurbished, but i could have purchased a drive 4TB smaller but brand new for less So not sure how long this thng will last but i decided to give it a shot. Will report back if it dies early but i think should be ok. Anyways, for the price it's not a bad deal, but lets see how long this lasts. For now, 4 stars, the drive looks new and works, it was my fault for not reading the whole page to see that it was refurbed. If it works for a few years i'll bump it up to 5.

12tb reports 11tb. just so u know cpu math. for each file location address is also storage data.
12TB did multiple stress tests for four days. then started having issues. hard drive good. bad sata cable started to warp way past 36hr stress testing at 350mbs sustained. replaced cable. all is good now. bought 2 more for offline storage and stress tested with no issues. yes one is louder than the others, not worried. script: formatfull, copy linux6GB.iso x N+1, win scandisk, formatfull, repeat until eyes bleed. takes about 16 hours to fill 12TB hard drive one time with large files, small files might take 3x longer. they were well packaged almost like new.

AN UPDATE....
So. Long story short it is VERYYYY easy to lookup when your SATA was made. It's right there. Mine was 6 YEARS OLD 😳 Chances are this was used fir a few years and right before the warranty was up- they turned it in for a new one- I've seen it a thousand times before. So i get a used 6 year old 12TB SATA. Would I want that? NO.So I returned it. Keep in mind i was TOLD by this company that "some SATAS that are considered "new" are made 2-3 years prior to you buying them.So of course I checked the date of my SATA immediately upon purchasing the new one - it was made 12 DAYS before I had it in my hands lol 😆! Nice try with the 2 to 3 years!I ended up with a brand new 8TB Seagate Barracuda to not break my bank, but i cannot be happier knowing that this has MEVER been used and was LITERALLY made a few days ago and went STRAIGHT to me. Warranty. Zero issues. I expect a long lifetime with it and really guys....... Its the only way to go.Don't take a chance. Honestly, this was the 1st time I had ever done this and this was the reason. Ill never do it again. It's. Just. Not. Worth. It.I hope this helps at least someone change they're mind 🙂✌🏼

Not sure what's going on...
My biggest complaint is that this drive was delivered in an envelope without any protection. I heard the clank when the delivery guy dropped it on the cement porch outside my front door. It wasn't damaged and appears to work fine.I ran smartctl on it and this is what seems weird. This drive is supposed to be refurbished, but according to smartctl, it's never been turned on before, which makes me wonder if the SMART data got reset or if I somehow ended up with a new drive.

A lot of storage
The drive is quiet. I've had it partitioned into two 6 TB sections. So far, so good for a refurbished hard drive.

loud noise, cant finish seagate test, etc...
just got this hd last week. it started making lound noise. reach out to seller tech. told them issues. they told me to run seatools long test. it gets stuck at 10% and app terminates the test over night few times. told them what is going on and they ask me to send the drive back to do a extensive test on thier side. the issue is i already transfered 2tb of data on it. now im backing up the new 14tb drive on to my 4tb drive. ??? waste of time!!!! also they are not sending me a replacement during their test. now im constantly getting notie from seatools that my HD power state has changed every 10 sec.update: 08 2024i reached out to the seller and they were really helpful. i changed my rating for 5 stars due to how they handled of this issue.spent some time reaserching on this drive from seagate. it's loud because the speed is what am finding. also it passes the short test using seagatetools but not the long test. it hangs at 10% for many people who got this as new. Now i have two of these drives and it's doing the same. i used a 3rd party and windows hd tester and it's fine. i have to assme this is a drive or software issue from seagate's part.since the seller was go good on this for me i'll be buying another one from them.
