Product Description In Sony Pictures Animation's first feature film, the animated action adventure comedy Open Season, the odd are about to get even. Boog (Martin Lawrence), a domesticated grizzly bear with no survival skills, has his perfect world turned upside down when he meets Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) a scrawny, fast-talking mule deer. When Elliot convinces Boog to leave his cushy home in a park ranger's garage to try a taste of the great outdoors, things quickly spiral out of control. Relocated to the forest with open season only three days away, Boog and Elliot must acclimate in a hurry. They must join forces to unite the woodland creatures and take the forest back! .com Growing up can be a confusing journey fraught with difficult choices. Boog (Martin Lawrence) is a domesticated Grizzly Bear who leads a perfectly happy life inside of Park Ranger Beth's (Debra Messing) garage, but a chance meeting with an overly energetic mule deer named Elliot (Ashton Kutcher) quickly changes everything and lands Boog high in the forest a few days before the opening of hunting season. Devoid of even the most basic survival skills, Boog and Elliot stumble through the woods and find themselves at the mercy of every forest animal from skunks to chipmunks as well as an evil hunter named Shaw (Gary Sinise). After unintentionally inciting and endangering an entire forest full of clever animals, Boog and Elliot come to the realization that only by banding together do the forest animals stand a chance of outsmarting the hunters and ensuring their own survival. This first animated film from Sony Pictures Animation takes its inspiration from cartoonist Steve Moore (In the Bleachers) and features animals with human-like intelligence, a vibrant color palate, and skilled animation that makes everything from the wind blowing Boo's fur to the animals' wild trip down the falls simply breathtaking. While it doesn't quite live up to Over the Hedge, Open Season is an entertaining production that explores the difficult process of maturation, the universal need for acceptance, and the true value of friendship. Special features include a 15-minute featurette about the animation process at Sony Pictures Animation and Image Works, a 7-minute look at the recording sessions featuring the voices behind the characters, two deleted scenes, three short animated cartoon strips, a short "Boog and Elliot's Midnight Bun Run" that's an extension of the trailer scene in the movie, art gallery, beat boards, humorous commentary from the animals' point of views, and a full length commentary by Producer Michelle Murdocca, Directors Roger Allers and Jill Culton, and others. Activities include a "Voice-A-Rama" where viewers can hear specific lines spoken by alternate voices and a trivia "Wheel of Fortune--Forest Edition" as well as a DVD-ROM link to more online fun. Bought for my son.
This movie, once something I watched as a child, is now a family movie. It's just as funny and just as odd as it was all those years ago.

The movie Open season
I really couldn't get too interested in Open season 1 and for some reason it skipped Open season 2 and it went on to Open season 3 which was hilarious I really enjoyed watching it and yes I would recommend it

Outstanding Blu-ray Title
It took a while to get past the eye-popping saturated color and mind-blowing detail of this Blu-ray disc (its that captivating) to even pay too much attention to the story. On a 70" JVC 1920 RPTV hooked up via HDMI from the new Sony sub $500 player the picture is simply superb and often stunnning. Color and detail are almost overwhelming and 3D. Definitely a good choice for showing your system off to friends.THE STORY: True, it isn't a new formula at work here, which should be no real surprise from the mainstream media outlets these days, but it is highly entertaining. While it wouldn't win any Academy Awards for best screenplay, the story is engagingly told and voice talent keeps it fun. If you want zany and over the top buy some Jerry Lewis movies! This movie should appeal to all age groups.THE SOUND: I'm sure my receiver is showing its age at not be able to fully decode the new formats. It will usually default to THX, which is not the best compromise. Maybe I'll update this review after I can fully evaluate the sound, but I'm sure I'm not alone in this respect.EXTRAS: I don't really spend time with these, unless its a Klingon Diction Seminar (jk)Buy it! Most folks will be glad they did.

3D Review by a 3D Connoisseur
My ratings are based mainly on the QUALITY OF THE 3D, not the video content. There are about 60 out of screen effects that extend about 10% of the way, from the screen to the viewer and another 19 around 25%. At 55:40 minutes raindrops fall up to 50% and around 71:30 a flying stick of dynamite made a lot of my friends duck.My last observation specific to this disk is hard to put into words but here goes; The 3D is done in such a way that it is hard to define "in the screen" and "out of the screen" effects. They usually flow between the two seamlessly making the surface of the screen (mentally) disappear. Ya know what I mean?*** Funny with an enjoyable story line - Excellent graphics add to the 3D ***MY 3D RATING = EXCELLENT (poor, fair, good, very good, excellent)Note: As far as the percentages go, everyone's eyes are different. What I see at 25% you may see at 15% or 35%. To fully realize how far something is out of the screen for you, pause on an effect and direct a partner with an extended finger to the tip of what you are seeing. You may be surprised.Click on `See all my reviews' for the lowdown on other 3Ds

Great fun!
We bought this film to take on a weekend away.... I didn't know the film but was attracted by the price and one customer review I had read. The whole family really enjoyed it ....my sons are 7 and 11. It's not as glossy as main stream films like Disney but was just as good

No subtitles despite advertised as such
I don't have the pretension to be a film critic so I stick to reviewing the product, in this case ASIN: B003P9WPE2, and I want to warn potential buyers that this 3D film has no subtitles at all despite what it says on Amazon's product page.

Laughed my socks off
I have watched this before on television and found it funny. After watching it again on blu ray I can still say it is funny. Plenty of silly humour.

6 year old loved it.....so did we!
Very funny! Great for any kids that like animals ( that means most of them). Gets a little slow for about 10 mins in the middle...for those with a short attention span... but soon picks up.The end part where Animals v hunters is as good as any cartoon you have seen! One of the hunters is a bit fierce...may put off timid kids, but the storyline is quite strong so they may not notice.Great for 5 + .
