However, the HPMC capsule as well as some of the "Other Ingredients" (microcrystalline cellulose and silica) help to protect the contents of the capsules from potential degradation by stomach acid. HPMC capsules typically pass through the stomach more-or-less intact to deliver acid-sensitive contents to the intestines rather than releasing them in the stomach, depending on individual differences in digestion and how soon the supplement is taken before/after eating.
