OS X El Capitan - Kindle Version
The book has a lot of info, but not as happy with the Kindle Book. I still prefer the printed hard copy when it comes to how too instruction books. I can find what I'm looking for better in the printed book, and going back and forth from one section to another is easier for me in the printed hard copy.

Excelente livro!!!!

Good introduction and good value
OS X El CapitanI have OS-X Yosemite on an iMac and an 11” MacAir book and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to El Capitan (free) – what were the “ improvements? What were possible draw backs? I have the possible “ bible” on OS-X Yosemite ( The missing manual series – 850 pages ) so was happy for a lesser tome quickly ( is this the first one to market? The other weightier tomes are all pre-order – as of 13th Oct 2015) for this soon to be available (free) upgrade .Note you can get a flavour of the new operating system changes on various U tube sites . These suggest to me that the change is a further tweak to make all of the OS-X and iOS systems ( iPhone/iPad) more compatible)and user friendly. The book ( 204 pages) is ca A4 rather than A5 sizeIt starts with what is new in El Capitan ( compared to Yosemite) – useful for anyone deciding whether to run the ( free upgrade) who has bought a Mac since 2014It then goes through previous operating systems ( back to OS-X Leopard) indicating what has been brought through in El Capitan ( and what hasn’t) – great for those upgrading from older operating systems. We then hit the basics – obtaining the programme - downloading only ( there is NO DVD) and installation of El Capitan (6Gb). If you have the system already pre installed when you buy the computer , (Mac) it is useful to know where the recovery programme is sited and how to access it if required. So as for contents/areas covered , the chapter headings are:-1) OS-X basics – Downloading and installation ,2) The desktop3) System preferences4) Files folders and drives5) Programmes and Documents6) Printing , faxing and Fonts7) Networks and sharing8) Online connections9) Security and Privacy10) Maintenance and Back ups - Trouble shooting is covered ( Apparently El Capitan autofixes “ permissions” which otherwise can only be accessed via Terminal .As in all books on the Mac – the use of Time Machine auto back ups is strongly recommended11) Switching from Windows - For Windows switchers there is a nice Windows vs Mac glossary showing Mac equivalents to Windows actions and functions12) Keyboard shortcuts - a listing of the main (Mac) keyboard shortcuts. What is good overall , is that it cross references each element in the relevant pages in the main text . There are also detailed references throughout the book to Apple’s online documentation and , for the power users ( or geeks) , references to the access of the heart of the Unix programme via the command line interface , Terminal .Would the book be good for a total newbie? Maybe – the basics are there but you may need additional advice – depending as to how computer literate you are.Certainly useful to an existing user of a Mac or a Windows switcher..There may be more detailed books published later. This suited me for timing, content and price Rate 5 star

Recommended.
More in depth than other books I've looked at but can't I suppose cover every little bit of information needed.Still, I consider it a good buy and would recommend it.

Reasonable.
Reasonable. Bought to get a better understanding of photo editing and mailing. Found I had to use the internet to get some of the info I needed. There is a lot to a computer help book so perhaps it can't all be covered. I would buy it again.
