X-Men: The Art and Making of The Animated Series

There is no movie or show that had such an impact on me as what "X-Men: The Animated Series" did. I watched the show religiously and know all the episodes by heart. My testimonial was one of the fortunate few chosen to be published in the previous book "Previously...On X-Men" (though with an unfortunate error claiming that "Giant Size X-Men" #1 (1975) was my first X-book, when it was actually "X-Men" #1 from 1991). Regardless, my love of this life changing show can be found more in depth with that book.While I am very grateful for the first book, this second book is definitely the superior choice! Not only is this one actually published with Marvel's involvement, but it is filled to the brim with crisp, beautiful photos and illustrations (both in color and black & white). It has colorized models for all of the main team (something I always wanted) plus mostly black and white models for nearly every other character that appeared in the show (this is perhaps my ONLY disappointment...as I wish all the side characters and villains would also have been colorized instead of black & white but perhaps their model sheets weren't colored or it would have been too expensive?). Nonetheless, there are full storyboards for the entire iconic intro to this amazing show, animation cels and the painted backgrounds for many memorable episodes and storylines. In the back of the book it features some nostalgic products that have come about from the massive success of this show (action figures, statues, comic spin-offs, etc.). There is even some previously unpublished artwork for how the characters may have been illustrated had the show been allowed to continue.I have not finished reading everything yet but I can already confirm that this book is more than worth the price just for the artwork and illustrations alone. This book features the definitive versions of the X-Men that I desperately miss and truly wish Marvel would finally bring back (and not screw it up like they did with both "X-Men Forever" and "X-Men '92"). It is literally a treasure trove of X-goodness that offers so much information on this series. This is exactly the type of book I have been hoping for ever since I first fell in love with this show over 25 years ago! If you loved this show even half as much as I did, I can not strongly recommend it enough!!

To start, I suspect many of my fellow readers will be like me: 90s kids, grew up watching the various classic 90s cartoons, including the X-Men. Nostalgia has made a big comeback in recent years, so it is only fitting that something like this comes out. This is the perfect book for the X-fan in your life. Not only does it have some great stories about what went on behind the scenes to make the incredible X-Men: TAS show, but it includes tons of art, including reproductions of the animation cels themselves which is so cool to see. It’s like all the bonus features the show deserved, but in a glorious coffee table book. For anyone who is a fan of the show: new and just discovering it on Disney+ or someone like me who has seen the episodes over and over through the years on VHS recordings or the more recent DVD sets, you owe it to yourself to learn everything that went in to making it such a watershed moment for 90s animation and superhero adaptations in general.Plus, they got the Dark Phoenix saga right when the blockbuster movies failed...twice! Anyone who can do that deserves all the support we can give! Thank you everyone who put this together for everything you have done to make the show, and now showing us how much work that actually was!

If you love the X-Men animated series as much as I did growing up, this book is a must-have. It not only shows the artwork for the show but has a ton of the backstory re: how they chose specific characters for the seasons, and the episodes they decided to write for the first season, etc. to really get the show started. Now with X-Men 97 coming soon this was really cool to revisit.

I grew up watching this cartoon in the early 90's and when I saw this book, I knew I had to get it right away. When I finally got to open it up and take a quick glimpse skimming through the pages, it took me straight back to my childhood. There is so much cool stuff in this book like original designs of the characters and everything I wanted to know as a kid I finally got to see it as an adult, but it doesn't matter because in every adult is still a piece of their childhood waiting to come back out to relive those memories. A must buy for anyone. Old fans and new fans. You will not be disappointed.

Not only did I get my order a day earlier than expected but once I opened it I couldn't wait to read it! And read it I did for a solid 3 hrs before forcing myself to stop because I didn't want it to end. But the stories being told along with the behind the scenes information is so interesting. And all of the designs, sketches, cell paintings...there's so much to take in. This is a very thought out book and worth every penny.

This book is so awesome as a keepsake! More art & information than you’ll ever need from the animated series. If you watched the show growing up you need this! Such a great keepsake/conversation piece!
