I could not be happier with this bat house. The first thing we noticed was the wonderful cedar smell as soon as we opened the box. The box is so well built and sturdy. The instructions were easy to read and install. We had to modify where the hardware had to be placed since we have a family of squirrels living right above where the box was placed. Every night for the past 3 years we’ve watched bats come out at dusk to get the bugs for the night. Nothing makes my family happier than to know we might have our own place for the bats soon!! I would sit on my porch wondering where the bats were... At same location many years prior, there were many bats. Not sure what changed, but I wanted to do what I could to make them feel welcome.This was the answer. Since installing this house, I am now seeing bats. Or, it's just dumb luck that I started seeing them about 1 month after installation. Either way, I'm thrilled.A couple takeouts from my initial concerns. You'll have to refer to my picture... And yes, that is a bat seen in the house :) . Anyway, the house faces South and the is mounted about 15' high, directly under the eaves. It's in SE Indiana. My first concern was that although it's facing South the eave would block the sun and reduce the desired direct heat. Mounting directly under the eave may not be 'ideal', but it has atleast been inhabitable for one bat. And needs noted that the eave provides protection from exposure (moreso to the bathouse itself). I mounted it high because didn't want it in the middle of the building wall... aesthetics being the reason. In my case, I believe the dark steel siding does well at getting hot in the direct sun portion--and also does well at transferring this heat into the box. Also very difficult for climbing predators to access the box. The box isn't flush to the wall by design, or by design of the siding (it has ridges), but I believe it receives sufficient heat. The second, slight, concern is that the ridges of the siding would compromise the installation strength... Luckily, cedar doesn't weigh much (relative to most other wood) and I was still able to use the provided 'L' brackets but had to reduce number of screws used to connect to both the box and the siding--this detail can be seen in pic. The batbox is well made--no concerns in this regard.Anyway--I'm thrilled! Love bats... their uniqueness, role in the environment--eating mozzies, and entertainment factor (for me, only the hummingbird rivals their agility). I hope my review encourages/helps atleast one person to install a bat box--it's a low risk, high reward, investment!Good Luck and Take Care.

I believe this may be the best bat house for a number of reasons.The Big Bat Box is available in three different colors this is important due to the temperature differences throughout the continental United States.I live in New Jersey so I chose the black version.There is a map on the big bat box website that shows the best colored house for your location.If you paint the house yourself you need to be careful not to choose the wrong products that might keep the bats from using your house or worse it might be toxic to them.The big bat box is painted with the best finishes and is ready to hang immediately.The hardware that comes with the box looks like stainless steel and brass.What that means is your hardware won't rust or leave any discoloration's on your siding if you choose to mount it directly to your house.The instructions are clear and to the point.When I opened the box it filled my living room with the wonderful smell of cedar which I have always loved.My installation was really simple I needed to go through vinyl siding, sheet insulation and then into the plywood behind it. I used 3 inch deck screws which worked beautifully.Something which is overlooked outside the very high-quality and the fact that it is available in three colors is the customer service.The customer service was excellent.I did Not have any issues with the Big Bat Box, but I wanted to confirm that I wasn't making any beginners mistakes in mounting the house.I sent several emails to Louis Reiff and all of my emails were answered in 24 hours or less.The replies were not form letters but quality information and answers that gave me the direction that I needed for a successful installation.If you're looking for a great product with excellent quality control and wonderful customer service you can't go wrong with the Big Bat Box.I would definitely Purchase the Big Bat House again in a heartbeat.

This is a quality bat box. My old one had screen inside of it for the bats to hold on to. When the screen came loose, the bats stopped using it. This new big bat box has grooves cut into it, instead of screens. It is way better quality. I am only giving it four stars because the mounting hardware is not too impressive. It is going to be installed 25 feet high, and I only want to climb up there once. I have to find some aluminum angle to make better hardware, but the bat box itself, is nice.

We just installed this bat house on a 20’ post, along with an older bat house that has had previous inhabitants. The new bat box from Amazon is great! Fantastic quality and easy to install. Hoping the bats find it soon.

This was a challenge!Box was fine, though a bit more roof protection ie tin or shi gle would have been nice.Very well built.Came with hardware to mount to a hoise, i would suggest adding hardware to mount to a pole as well.

Bats are one of the most misunderstood animals out there! They are extremely docile and are incredibly beneficial to us! If you have bats where you live...treat them good!! Giving them a bat house will not only protect them, it will keep them in the neighborhood!

I wanted a bat box that would look stylish in the yard. One that would attach to either one of my out building or our home. This bat box is perfect. Beautiful to look at, super well made out of cedar and painted dark for the area that I live in ( Ontario Canada). I have one bat that I bought it for as I distroyed his home when I renovated an out building on our farm. Now he has a new home he can invite many many more bats to live with him.I would recommend this purchase. Delivery was quick. Definitely read the listing to know what color you need for you area. I look forward to him eating as many bugs as he can.
