Size Name:3.0 Inch Dark Chrome You are looking at a listing for two sizes of tubular latch (2.5 Inch and 3 Inch) in two finish options (Chrome and Dark Chrome) The chrome latch will be suitable for use on chrome or satin chrome door handles or knobs. The dark chrome latches will work well with black cast iron handles and knobs. The size of the latch refers to the total length of the latch mechanism, This measurement is taken from the front edge of the plate to the furthest point on the cassette. In our opinion the measurement you should be considering is the distance from the front edge of the plate to the centre of the mortice opening, this governs how far your handle will be from the door edge. With the 3" latch this measurement is 57mm and the 2.5" latch it will be 45mm. All our latches come with striker plate and matching wood screws. Please note that the part which will be situated inside the door is not finished in the chrome/dark chrome.

Latch catches on plate and gets stuck inside
These are reasonable quality, as latches go. Like most these days, even well known brands, the internals are made of cast metal with a rough finish, which doesn't lend itself well to its purpose of sliding metal on metal. Nevertheless, the action is reasonably smooth. I oiled mine before installing to hopefully create that luxurious smooth feeling action: the net result was satisfactory. The latch itself is metal (it is brass coloured and maybe is brass), which provided a clean and secure latch once installed. Metal is ten-times better than some of the well known brands using plastic. Avoid plastic latches at all costs, as their edge is slightly rounded which can mean the door does not latch securely.Points to watch out for is that these are designed for a 24-25mm hole, and most existing doors have a 19mm hole, so for retrofitting, I ended up spending quite a while with a chisel cutting out the hole. You need to ensure that you have cut away enough wood, as the latch slider protrudes from the top and bottom of the body, and fouls on any wood left in your hole, stopping the latch from sliding freely. This turned what should have been a 5-minute job into 30 minutes, needing a lot more tools and creating a lot more mess. I would argue that for internal doors, unless yours are especially thick, a 24mm hole is too big, leaving the remaining wood either side very thin.I noticed before installing that if you turn the latch as far as it will let you, the latch is drawn completely inside its face plate, and because of the slight torque caused by the rotation, pushes up and catches inside the face plate. I assumed that this would no longer happen once the handle was installed, as the handle would limit the rotation, but of course that is not the case; the latch limits the rotation, not the handle. So the result is that if someone is heavy handed with the handle and pulls it all the way down, then the latch invariably gets stuck "inside" the door. You then need to push on the latch itself to release it so that you can close the

Excellent!
Excellent value, well made; bought them to replace some old ones, the only reason I didn’t give them a 5 * rating is that I need to see if they perform and last, but considering the price, maybe I should have given them 5* - very pleased!

Very good quality but 2.5 is the length of the whole thing.
Good quality mortice latch but I misunderstood the measurements. I thought 2.5 was the distance between the striking plate and the latch but it's actually the length of the while thing. However, the customer service I received after explaining the issue was brilliant and they were more than happy for me to return them for a full refund.

All chrome finish, brass catch.
The depression at screw hole does mean the door recess needs to be counter sunk, okay when you know how.
