Interesting
It took me a while to read this book. I did like that this book is Christian based, it's a good read and a good story but I just couldn't get into it. The story seemed a bit to drawn out.

This book fed my heart, mind, and soul
This fall I have been longing for some good fiction. I am a prolific reader but most of what I read is non fiction. I'm not of the mind to read something like "50 Shades of Grey" and I'm finding fiction that feeds both my mind and my soul increasingly hard to find. I'm not sure how I missed this great read (Elizabeth: A Holy Land Pilgrimage) since it's by one of my favorite authors and was originally released in 2010. It has now been re released in celebration of the Year of Faith and it's a must read!! I was hooked from page one. Elizabeth (Beth as she's called in the book) is a 48 year old mother of 4 who goes to The Holy Land in search of peace for her life. I believe her journey represents so many women who give their entire selves to serve their families but forget to give a little to themselves. This book isn't the typical "mid life crisis me me me" story that our culture is so fond of pushing on us. While Beth was experiencing some stress in her marriage she did not look to the world or other men to fulfill her. She went to the Holy Land in search of God. She found Him in so many of the people and events that took place while she visited. I was especially fascinated by the explanations of the Jewish customs and beliefs that truly are carried over in one way or another into Christian living. After all, each of us have Jewish roots. I know little about the Jewish customs but learned much (and was prompted to research more on my own) through reading this book. Beth's experience traveling the Via Dolorosa left me reading and re-reading certain passages again and again. I have never been to the Holy Land so reading about it in such detail was such a gift to me. The character development was fabulous and this book left me begging the author for a sequel! I tried to savor each page but at the same time I couldn't put it down. I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone looking for good fiction that will feed their heart, mind, and soul. So grab the book, a cup of coffee or tea, and curl up on a chilly fall evening. I promise you won't regret it.

Good overview of some Jewish customs and some aspects of Messianic Christianity.
The book is wordy in parts and a little dramatic in other parts. I thought the marriage issue was never developed, and maybe not necessary. It's a quick and light read if you are planning a trip to Israel.

Highly recommended for women, wives, moms
This is a wonderful book! After buying copies for myself and my mother, I then also gave them to all my sisters and sisters-in-law. This book really spoke to me as a wife and mother. The title character struggles with her identity, her marriage, and her motherhood. Her pilgrimage to the Holy Land leads her and the reader to introspection. Each chapter begins with a thought-provoking citation from the Book of Psalms. At the same time, the book is simply an enjoyable read. I felt as though I accompanied Elizabeth and her friends on their sight-seeing. Plus, it made me want to taste Middle-Eastern food! How great that there are some recipes in the appendix!I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading short novels, Christian fiction, travel books, or realistic women's fiction.I am really looking forward to the sequel!

Wonderful Wholesome Fiction
I am not a writer, in fact this is the first book review I have ever written. After I finished reading "Elizabeth: A Holy Pilgrimage" I felt compelled to write a review. This book was a delight to read. By the end I felt that the families and characters in this book were friends of mine. I also felt as if I had taken a trip to the Holy Land. Cheryl did a wonderful job of bringing the characters and Israel to life. I find few books today that relate to my vocation as a Catholic Wife and mom of 5 but this one did. I enjoyed the book so much that I am hoping that Cheryl Dickow writes a sequel so we can enjoy the characters again. I highly recommend this book!

A very surface story of a woman's struggles.
I did not finish this book. Muddled theology used. I could understand the premise, but the storyline was not given to enough details to make Elizabeth's events in her trip reasonable. Definitely a Catholic perspective. Elizabeth: A Holy Land Pilgrimage

Rediscovering God's love
I found through the story my lack of gratitude for my faith as I've aged. The characters in the story seemed real and their purpose was clear. I'm going to recommend it to my women's group at church.
