Works great after some setup issues
I had an almost identical looking encrypted case from Startech that stopped working after 4 years, and was no longer available, so I bought this hoping I could stick the SSD in it and use the same password and it would work. It didn't, but I had my data backed up so I formatted the drive, filled it up and tried to access it on my android tablet. It wasn't recognized, then searched a little deeper and it said the data was corrupted, fix it by formatting on the tablet. I did, went back to my desktop, it worked, and I loaded the files again. Went back to the tablet and all was good. It's very simple to use, and set-up a encryption password. Also smart to back it up in case something dies. I have a 1TB SSD in it.

Functionality was fine but had recurring connectivity issues with micro-b socket
The enclosure was simple to set up and use, but I had connectivity issues with the micro-b plug socket from day 1.The environment was pretty stable and the enclosure was not being moved around or jostled, but if the micro-b cable was bumped or touched in any way the enclosure would lose connection.Removal and re-insertion of the cable would typically result in a displayed 'connection error' for multiple attempts, after which it would work again for a while. After 9 months of increasingly fragile connectivity the enclosure has basically stopped working unless one keeps constant upward pressure on the inserted micro-b cable.Have tried multiple cables with no improvement, and get the same behavior when connecting the enclosure to multiple machines.I suppose I could cobble together a solution using a rubber band to apply sufficient tension to maintain connectivity, but I've lost faith in the enclosure's reliability and am just going to remove/reformat the drive and toss the enclosure into the garbageI'd encourage the manufacturer to improve the quality of the micro-b socket or switch to another connection type. USB-C perhaps?Other than that I had no problems with the device.

Fantastic Product
I use this enclosure daily with a standard 2.5" HDD and the speed is not hindered significantly vs running the drive directly. This is an excellent alternative to buying a fully encrypted drive from other vendors at many times the price. I have tested this product with both a 2.5" HDD and 2.5" SSD with no issues, but if you've got an SSD I highly recommend the SATA III version of this product from the same vendor, you'll notice a huge speed increase. The enclosure is well-built but do not expect it to provide any physical security for your drive, this is purely a logical security solution.Device management is friendly and once you've set up the drive it only takes a few seconds to enter a pin and mount the drive each time you use it.The only note I have is please be aware there is no feature to wipe the drive after a set number of PIN failures. Other than that, this is a fantastic product.(This is not a paid review, and not a 'freebie' I was expected to review, etc.)

Great quality, easy to set up and use
This encrypted drive enclosure is fantastic! Great build quality, easy to setup and use, and no problems whatsoever after a week of solid use. I couldn't measure any loss of performance between encryption enabled or not (100.8MB/sec average, 138MB/sec max with spinning 2.5MM drive). The only improvements I can suggest is having a bigger LED display, and it would be nice if the back was some kind of non-slip rubberized material rather than shiny chrome. Still, every part of this device exudes quality. And, for the price, simply can't be beat. This enclosure is somewhat future-proof because I can replace the 2.5" drive when I need more storage space.

Fried an SSD. Waiting for tech support to reply.
I truly wish it hadn't, but the enclosure fried my 1tb Mushkin Reactor SSD.I followed the simple, downloaded PDF, which was in excellent English, BTW.Installed the SSD, added a password, initialized the drive in Win 10 Disk Management Console, added files. All progressed swimmingly. I disconnected the drive. Reconnected it a bit later, and it immediately said No HDD. The rest is hours of unsuccessful troubleshooting, diagnostics, and some back and forth with Mushkin support.I bought this device because of the incredible ratings. And, I WILL update my rating when, and if Tech Support resolves my issue. Sadly, I doubt they will send me a replacement SSD. Though I would send them this one to troubleshoot what might have happened. We shall see. On a side note, before playing with any kind of technology like this PLEASE be sure to have a backup copy of your data somewhere else. Even if you have to burn 100 BluRay discs. It's worth not losing irreplaceable content.

Smart Idea and Good Implementation!
Imagine adding hardware-level password encryption to any existing hard drive? This is a really a smart idea that makes hardware encryption much more affordable. If you buy a hard drive that has this capability out of the box, it would cost you around $200 for 1TB (at least at the time of writing this review, Apricorn Aegis Padlock is sold for $197 on Amazon). I assembled my own password-encrypted 2TB hard drive using FahanTech and a brand new 2.5'' harddrive for $126. That's 1TB more and $71 less. You really can't beat this, if you already have an unused 2.5'' HDD laying around, the savings are even more.I've had this for product for exactly one month now and had no issues with it so far. I leave it plugged in for long hours a day and use it on a daily basis. I really love it and I hope it continues to be reliable for long term.

It lets you keep guessing the password! Not secure enough!
If you use a robot to press the keys, you could guess the password in a relatively short amount of time. They claim that it stops you from guessing if too many attempts are made, but I tried it myself, and the delay is not very long at all. After a short delay, it lets you keep guessing! And it claims the delay grows, but not long enough! It should be like an iPhone where it gets longer after each guess. I did not feel comfortable with this level of security, so I returned it and tried another one, and this one is much better. ASIN B00S3G12E6 iodd 2541 USB 3.0 External Encrypted Hard Drive Enclosure. Get that one if you need something that will take longer than a few years to crack.

Tolles Produkt
Funktioniert wie beschreiben.Und für den Preis unschlagbar.Eine info fehlte das man durch die Kombination Case id + HD id = Masterkennwort - 50 verschieden Festplatten benutzen kann.

Great product - well worth the purchase.
Excellent delivery through Prime, fitting a 2.5" HDD was quick and simple - as was the initial setup of the device/encryption. Connected to my home PC, formatted and transferred some data. Unplugged from PC and tried in my Android tablet, after entering pin code all data was accessible and works just like any other HDD. I then, as a test, removed the HDD and tried it in an old enclosure - data is unreadable, as expected. The product is well finished and the buttons work well - although they only require a touch rather than a press! The option to disconnect and power down the drive via the controls is also handy, if you needed to leave it plugged in but inaccessible. The write protect option can also be very useful when plugging the drive into unknown systems so that you won't get any unwanted data changes (you need to 'tick' the option then go back to the previous menu for the device to disconnect and reconnect before the state is changed and the last state is remembered on power down).Overall the product is doing a good job and is great value for money - highly recommended!

Great item. Also very good value for money. Highly recommended!
I have bought two of these by FahanTech. I like the slick touch-keypad and the build quality of the unit is very good indeed.I have previously purchased very similar items which were sold by Amazon, but were a different brand. The FahanTech one is every bit as good as previous lockdown enclosures but it is a little cheaper than I have previously paid (although, to be fair the older different brands came with a soft pouch... but I would rather benefit from the reduced cost of the FahanTech... the pouch is hardly very important). From my experience with this type/design of hardware encrypted HDD enclosure I would recommend this item. It representrs good value for a well-made and functionally excellent piece of technology.

Funtioniert einwandfrei! - Habe mir gerade 2.Stück bestellt!
Das schöne daran, es funktioniert unter Windows und unter Mac OS. Schade dass die Firma nichts Vergleichbares für 3,5 Zoll anbietet!
