The Big Bad Book of Bill Murray: A Critical Appreciation of the World's Finest Actor

I bought this book used from the seller… and I couldn’t be anymore happier! It didn’t even look used. Shipping was faster than the date they gave me as well.

There is a ton of information in the book in alphabetical order, which can be somewhat annoying if you're reading from cover to cover. As it can jump decades from one page to the next. It is convenient if you know what you are looking for. Also to be clear Bill Murray has no actual affiliation with this book. The author did extensive research into the actors life, talking with colleagues and associates for information for the book. The author also goes on to rate each of the quality of each of his movies, as well as a separate rating on his performance in said movie. The ratings are to be taken with a grain of salt, as they are based on the authors personal opinions. Some of which I agree with, and others I don't. Overall I'd definitely recommend this book for any Bill Murray fan. If anything it is a great conversation starter and coffee table book.

Bill Murray is an icon of film. I knew that I would enjoy any book about him. Despite his insanely funny comedy, there is also a dark side to him, and I feel that the cover reflects that duality. The book is not a memoir or even a biography. It covers much of his life without really making it his life story.If you love Bill Murray, you will enjoy this book immensely, but you won't feel like you learned a lot about what makes him tick. That is a different type of book altogether. Still very enjoyable.

This is NOT an authorized biography of Bill Murray. However, Robert Schnakenberg did his research, and did it very well. These are stories about, involving, or of Bill Murray and the highlights of his life. Some of the stories are directly from BFM himself, while others are pulled from interviews of other co-stars/directors/family members etc. etc. There are also detailed reviews of his most famous movies, the roles he played in them, and the importance/must-see "rating" of each film he starred in. Schnakenberg also describes/debunks some of the lore surrounding the worlds best gate crasher (his infamous 1-800 number, movies he missed out on or passed up, fights with co-stars). If youre even a casual Murray fan this book should be in your shelves.

Me. Schnakenberg has given Bill Murray fans a very lovely gift! It is written beautifully, and it is structured with tons of photos, and quotes that will satisfy even the most demanding Murrayphile. One can simply open this tome randomly, and thoroughly enjoy what's displayed. It is quite simply wonderful. If anyone knows a Bill Murray fan of any level, this would make a fantastic Christmas gift or stocking stuffer. I, for one, mean to seek out Mr. Schnakenberg's other endeavors since he has given us such a terrific look at a true American treasure. Thank you Mr. Schnakenberg, I loved it!!!

Murray’s description and critique on his movies.

I love the design of this book and the encyclopedic format makes it a nice reference book. The color photos are great, as are the many side "Tales from Murrayland" stories and other sidebars.My biggest complaint is that the author chose to write his own reviews of Murray's movies instead of just list facts, trivia or quote Bill Murray and other cast/crew members about the making of the movies. This became quite clear when the author gives "Scrooged" his lowest rating and labels it as "easily the worst film of his career," which is ludicrous, seeing as one of the author's three favorite Murray movies is the Garfield sequel!

Bin kurz vor einer Reise zufällig auf das Buch gestoßen und dachte etwas leichte kost könnte nicht Schaden. Und nachdem in den letzten Jahren ja doch einige eher lustige/kuriose Geschichten über Bill Murray kursieren, dachte ich mir, dass könnte ganz amüsant werden.Das Buch ist wie eine Art Lexikon gehalten, d.h. man liest alphabetisch sortierte Anekdoten. Von der Aufmachung her ist im eher quadratischen US Format gehalten, beinhaltet viele Bilder und ist auf eher schwerem Papier gedruckt (nicht so optimal für die Reise, aber OK). Grob gesagt bestehen die Einträge zu etwa 1/3 aus Filmen in denen er mitgespielt hat oder für die er vorgesehen war, zu 1/3 aus Personen die mit ihm verbunden sind und zu 1/3 aus sonstigem (Charaktereigenschaften, besonderen Orten etc.)Da es sich nicht um eine autorisierte Biographie handelt, stammen eigenltich sämtliche Einträge aus öffentlichen Quellen. Dass es sich dabei um die vollständigste Sammlung dieser Art zu Bill Murray handelt kann ich mir gut vorstellen, habe jetzt aber selbst nicht weiter recherchiert. Einiges kennt man dadurch natürlich schon, man bekommt aber von einigen Geschichten schon ein ganz gutes Bild davon inwieweit diese wahrscheinlich stimmen.Für leichte Unterhaltung nebenher kann ich das Buch im Endeffekt jedem empfehlen der Bill Murray mag. Einige Einträge fand ich schon sehr amüsant und gerade bei den Filmen die man kennt ein paar Hintergrundinfos zu erhalten war interessant.Allerdings muss ich zugeben, dass ich viele Filme die hier genannt sind gar nicht kenne (v.a. die in denen er nicht mitgespielt hat, die Rolle aber angeboten bekommen hat). Viel mehr steht bei diesen Filmen auch inhaltlich nicht dabei, trotzdem sind die Einträge dazu teils etwas länger. Dafurch wirkt das Ganze stellenweise etwas aufgebläht. Das gleiche gilt nämlich ebenso für die genannten Personen, da ich vielleicht die Hälfte der genannten Leute kenne.Ich habe irgendwann angefangen nicht mehr jeden Eintrag zu lesen, sondern nur noch die augenscheinlich interessanten. Und da findet sich genug dass ich es nicht bereut habe das Buch gekauft zu haben. Trotzdem hätte ich mir davon etwas mehr gewünscht und dafür vielleicht etwas weniger (meiner Meinung nach) überflüssigen Infos.

I put this on my coffee table and it has always been great conversation piece with friends. But also it's a fantastically fun, well written book.

My boyfriend is a huge Bill Murray fan, he loved the book!! The infamous bill stories are trickled in among really cool facts and info about him. Happy I went with this book over “the tao of bill murray.”
