On YouTube, I have seen a few videos of "Baking with Julia" and I found them very interesting (especially the video of Martha Stewart Glorious Wedding Cake) I looked for the book on desertcart.it, but it cost 60 Euros (more than $ 63 !!!). :( I tried to order from desertcart.com, fearing exorbitant customs fees. desertcart.com has recognized my desertcart.it account (it's globalization, baby) I paid 10 euro about shipping (total 33 euro, about $ 35), I waited a bit more than a month. :) From the accompanying note, I see that the book has also made stops in Paris during his international transport (very amazing: a Julia's Soul desire?) I paid neither other taxes, neither customs fees nor IVA (Italian tax on the final cost of a product, Value Added Tax), nor else. Cup instead of grams and deciliters are not a problem, I have built a measuring cup with the bottom of a plastic bottle for water (1 american cup = 236 ml = 236 grams of water) Today I realize that now the book is also on sale on desertcart.it 32 € ! Anyway I'm happy with the purchase, for desertcart's service and for the book by Julia and Dorie. E' una minaccia (ma solo per i miei risparmi) :D Review: A Reliable Baking Book - I am skeptical of most of the cookbooks that are based on PBS TV cooking shows, plus some of Julia Child's early cookbooks had many recipes that were involved and difficult for the casual home cook to do. This book, however, is a reliable resource that you can depend on for baked goods in your home oven. The most important feature of this book is that all of the recipes are written by professional bakers (of whom there are some 2 dozen or so, some you will recognize, all are seasoned bakers from various commercial settings), and the recipes are scaled-down versions of reliable production recipes. The instructions are exemplary in their detail and completeness. All things considered, this is also an excellent learning tool for the beginner. When I need to learn something new (such as rugelach or naan), this is one of the first books I reach for. The first chapter has an extensive section on basic techniques and words that you do not usually get in even a good baking book. It has some basic recipes that must be mastered before you go on to the recipes in the rest of the book, like genoise or meringue. It also has chapters on bread (Daily; Artisanal, Flatbreads), breakfast goods and quick breads, cakes (Everyday, Showstoppers, Wedding Cake, Cookies), and pastries (Pies, Grand, Savory). It has a good selection of all the major categories you are likely to want to do at home.

A Reliable Baking Book
I am skeptical of most of the cookbooks that are based on PBS TV cooking shows, plus some of Julia Child's early cookbooks had many recipes that were involved and difficult for the casual home cook to do. Nostalgic, glorious and helping add to my fluffy layer.
In my pantheon of my kitchen gods and goddesses (Anthony Bourdain, Ina Garten, Jacques Pepin, Padma Lakshmi...) and one serious culinary crush (ahem...Andrew Zimmern) my ultimate kitchen deity is Julia Child. I grew up watching Julia on TV and she is a piece of my childhood and partially responsible for my love of food. Yes, I am a "live to eat" person and also a "love to cook" person. I am especially fond of baking and this book has been an excellent education by helping me hone beginner skills like making basic bread (my husband loves the White Loaf bread toasted in the morning) and has prompted me to try more difficult offerings like Danish Pastry. The directions are laid out clearly and concisely so frustration is minimal. The book is graced by Julia's charming storytelling and the bakers that are included in this book that worked along side her are some of the best in their field. A good read and a great baking "how to" manual.

I’m so grateful that Julia child was so productive in her contribution to the wealth of information available in book form for cooks and bakers. I let my copy of this get away a few years ago and decided to replace it. I generally missed it. I’m one of those odd ducks that likes to read cookbook at night. Welcome home, Julia

Ah ah ah notre chauvinisme bien français en prend un coup parceque ce bouquin, mis à part le fait d'être en anglais vous fera saliver, avec des recettes de viennoiseries bien françaises, les explications sont precises, completes et les photos vous affament.

Meine Überschrift fasst es zusammen. Das Buch würde ich vor allem aufgrund der gut beschriebenen Techniken weiterempfehlen. Egal was ich backe, ich schaue immer gerne in diesem Buch nach, ob Julia für die Zubereitung noch einen Profi-Tipp hatte...
