Sorby Fingernail Bowl Gouge, 3/8"

This isn’t the first Robert Sorby lathe tool I purchased, but it’s like the others I have, a quality tool at a fair price that will last the rest of my life.I’m using this gouge to turn Windsor chair legs and duck call barrels.This tool was not ready to use out of the package, which wasn’t a big deal. I touched it up with a slip stone and a strop.

Of course its great! I love Sorby tools!1-2-20.. i finally got to use the tool, great tool it really is good for inside bowls!

The learning curve is short and the tool works like a knife cutting through butter. I mainly turn hardwood bowls and boxes out of olive wood peucalyptus and this tool works great. I am in the process of ordering the 1/2” bowl gouge and eventually the 1” gouge. Very happy with Sorby tools.

Newbie turner splurged on a good tool and I am very happy with it.

Its well balanced when new. I only wish they would identify the type of flute in their literature.

Good high quality bowl gouge, came with a slightly swept back grind that I didn't have to change.

holds an edge much better than the cheaper bowl gouge I have. Also like the long handle. Once I figured out how to properly use made lots a curly thin shavings instead of dust.
