Gayby is just too irreverent...
And we need more of it during this quarantine time. I enjoyed every moment of this film. We need more right-off-the-bat humor like this. Everybody was good. The story fit and very plausible. Adam Driver was in this film and didn't know that he was going to hit it big real soon. All the characters were lovable and relatable. I even enjoyed the bear queen and skinny queen cat fight on the couch. During the lock down this kind of movie really makes my day go by smoother and productively. Keep them coming.

No
Saw the Wolfe logo assembling at the opening, and knew from too many other movies the level of quality, and talent I could expect. There are a lot of lgbtqi+ filmmakers out there who should be represented, even championed here. You certainly deserve better than this.

Pulls No Punches!
Gayby pulls no punches! It is right in your face from the very beginning. In fact, I was so very pleasantly surprised that I did *not* have to sit through the usual boring, get to know the characters beginning, that I actually sat up and paid attention. Basically, the trailer *is* the beginning. They get right to the main course, you know exactly everything that is going on and you laugh your head off. This is how a comedy should be made. No waiting for the humor here!True, there are some places where you are hit with the seriousness of it all and the impact of what they are doing has on all those involved as well as the possible consequences of not, up front, agreeing to a few hard and fast rules and realizing that having a baby should not be a selfish decision. But overall, this is a very good script, well acted and well directed.I was not at all "put off" by the 1 over-the-top stereotypical part because in real life, there will always be people who think that they need to "be" gay instead of just being themselves; playing the stereotypical role is easier than becoming fully in touch with who they are as a person. There will always be people who do not feel they "fit in," there will always be a gay sub-culture that appeals to them and, there will always be people within those sub-cultures who feel the need to be "special" by acting "over-the-top." In other words, for many people the word "gay" first and foremost means "in your face" instead of simply identifying the gender with whom they sleep. Unfortunately, there are stereotypes on either side of the spectrum comprised of people who *want* to be like those that fit what they see instead of just being themselves. "Gay" does not identify me. *I* identify me. Problem with just being yourself is that your average, everyday person makes for a very boring movie. My RANT aside, this is a very good movie. I highly recommend it.

Prepared to hate it, and pleasantly surprised
I'm one of those gay men who doesn't like children, doesn't understand why anyone would want children, and always considered myself fortunate that my long-term partner feels the same. Therefore, I was prepared to hate this movie. What a pleasant surprise it was that this Indie was actually light and entertaining, and not so much focused on the desire to reproduce, but rather centered upon the characters' need for something meaningful and lasting beyond themselves. Personally, I get that need met by our dog, but that's just me. I particularly liked that the reproducers realized they weren't particularly great parents, and needed each other, as well as each other's spouses, just to get parenting ALMOST right. By film's end, I was completely convinced that these four people would each contribute something fabulous to the child's upbringing, and that the kid would be remarkably well adjusted because of the influence of all four parents. As for one reviewer's reference to a similarity to TV's Will and Grace, I concluded that we simply didn't watch the same movie. As gay Indies go, this one is one of the best.

Timeless Story of Gay Dads, Good Friends, Weird Relationships. All Perfectly Told.
I loved every minute of the film! All of the characters are perfectly cast, the story moves quickly from beginning to end and the supporting characters add so much to the story which is that it takes more than a mom and dad to have and raise a kid.

Gayby Rocks!
Once in awhile a true movie gem comes along that is well-written, smart, funny with a wonderful cast. Above all, Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy's current main squeeze, Matthew Wilkas (Broadway's Spiderman) is extremely talented, easy on the eyes and so sexy hot. Hopefully he continues to make more feature films because this one story-wise and spot-on performance is a winner.

These guys and girls are funny!
this movie was a surprise to me. I will be honest that I got it because the lead was very cute. Surprise! I loved it all. Straight BF girlfriend wants a baby and asks her best gay friend they agree to it. Fun and funny ensues. Matthew Wilkas is sweet and adorable and funny, Jenn harris is a crack up, love her. The entire supporting cast is superba and hysterical. Some sex and you really have to pay attention when all the catty best gay friends start dishing it out...so funny! Low budget and independent films ROCK. This is a perfect example.

a comedy that bubbles up into quite a froth
Gayby is an endearing comedy which has two likeable leads, and a host of good supporting roles. It is about a yoga instructor, Jenn (Jenn Harris) who you always keep liking, and her gay best friend, Matt (ditto), whose real name is also half his own, Matthew Wilkas, who decide to have a baby together the old-fashioned way, not reckoning on how hard this might be. The naming of the characters is a nice detail and speaks of the personal feel that the whole project has. They are both dating left and right - this is where it all gets a bit silly - so you never know who's going to end up in bed with who, but the comic tone is well maintained and it is a plus that Matt works in a comic shop and is a graphic artist - his co-worker, played by Adam Driver, is also worth keeping in the picture ... as is the hunky father of a young comic enthusiast. It's perhaps a bit like the Spanish film Chef's Special in its take on modern gay life, and its chatty, frank approach to sex and farcical couplings - it is very easy to go with, and proves quite bighearted. The deleted scenes are crying out to be viewed as well, with a hot dance take of Matt and Jenn's sexy builder-fling and a dream sequence that ingeniously asks the son a few questions in the future, aged 18. The director Jonathan Lisecki was probably right not to include it in the final version, but it is a great postscript to the film ... Lisecki himself is hilarious in the film too as a camp bear; he has one of the best 'bitching' dialogues with another camp colleague of Jenn's. There is a lot to enjoy here - even more the second time, in fact.

Slow but warm `comedy'.
I had wanted to see this for a while and finally got round to it and I must admit to being underwhelmed. The plot is that Matt (Mathew Wilkas `The New Twenty') has a long term `best gal pal' in the form of Jenn (Jenn Harris - `Confessions of a Shopaholic') and she wants to have a baby. The problem is she can't find her Prince Charming and all her relationships last a mere, few months. Mean times she decides to ask Matt if he will be the father, the catch is that she wants to do it the old fashioned way and avoid the whole turkey baster routine. To aid in her fertility she does all she can including taking `horny goat weed'.We get to meet all their friends including his from the comic store where he works and hers from the gym where she teaches yoga. They are all nice enough and there are some good interchanges between the characters. The problem is it just is so not funny. I could raise barely a smile and it does seem to move at a very slow pace indeed. There is nothing wrong with the actors at all; it is just the material they have to work with, or rather the lack of it. There is some bedroom rutting but all pretty inoffensive and no gay `getting it on' either, so if that is what you were looking for, then best to not bother. There also is very little background music but there is a very good version of Beyonces `Crazy in Love' which is performed by Antony and the Johnsons, which perked things up. There is genuine warmth from the players with each other and real on screen chemistry which was appreciated and it was fairly well directed, but in the end it was just `ok, hence my rating.

Gay rom com with some straight sex thrown in for good measure.
Perfectly tolerable and watchable gay (with straight sex thrown in) rom com that is nice enough. There's no bad performance here. There's also no explicit gay sex scenes. And no nudity either. I'm thinking the 15 certificate is for the sex references and the parts where the gay guy puts his-just-about-to-cum-cock in his best friends vagina. In lieu of any pelvic thrusting there's some pretty hot kissing here. This is another gay film in which the guys are hot. There's some fun to be had here. The acting here is very good.

"Disappointing"
This is another example that proves that American comedies are not very funny. The trailer promised more that the film actually delivered. Jenn's acting ability does not impress me. She manages to look bored and is in fact boring most of the time. She is definitely miscast. The film is supposed to be a comedy. The male actors saved it though. `Gayby' was not value for money. I paid £14 for it and that was far too much. Thanks to the male actors it was entertaining at times.

Friends With Benefits/No Strings Attached
Another day, another comedy where a girl and guy decide to have sex and not let it ruin their friendship. The twist in this film is the guys gay, also the couple are having sex to get a baby. If you havent seen Friends With Benefits and No Strings Attached then watch this, overwise you might have a sense of deju vu.
