Product description THE PLASTIC JEWEL CASE HAS A FEW SMALL CRACKS ON THE FRONTS. .com Tom and Dick Smothers hit show-biz pay dirt by exploring the lighter side of brotherly competition in their musical comedy act. Combining substantial folk-singing skills with barbed comic repartee, the Smothers Brothers endeared themselves to "hip" crowds and mainstream audiences alike. That feat was a considerable accomplishment in the '60s, when the recordings that comprise this generous sampler were made. The tracks include such memorable numbers as "Pretoria," "Tom Dooley," "The Saga of John Henry," "Cabbage," "I Talk to the Trees," and, of course, "Mom Always Liked You Best." --Scott Schinder

Take It!
- The Folk Singer Credo from the Folk Singers Guide Book: "All folk singers are obligated to `Take It!'" -I've always had a soft place in my heart for the Smothers Brothers. Few can play the fool as well as Tom, and Dick is the perfect partner to play against Tom's antics. Add to the mix that they could probably actually be a successful folk group if they didn't simply use their musical gifts for their unique folk-satire brand of comedy. One also should not forget the way they pushed the envelope on TV, more than once. "Sibling Revelry: The Best of The Smothers Brothers" is a collection of 18 routines taken from 9 different live albums. There is a mix of quick hitters, like "Daniel Boone", "Hangman", and "The Military Lovers" which would make a great comment on "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in today's political environment, and then some very long routines like "The Saga of John Henry", and "Cabbage". All in all there are over 75 minutes of humor and their special brand of folk-music which is unlike any other. Sometimes they put a twist on a classic, other times they create their own delightful and bizarre songs, and on rare occasion they even make it to the end of the piece. The album does have a bit of a disjointed feel, as it picks tracks from different albums which causes it to lose the flow that existed on the original albums, but the routines are still very funny.

I always liked them best!
The Smothers Brothers were a favorite from my childhood, and their routines are still just as funny & enjoyable today. Add to that their musical proficiency, which could easily have sustained a folk-singing career even without their unique style of comedy, and you've got a great collection of music & humor gathered on this disc. Of course they also bring back memories of their TV show, one of the few programs that spoke to the youthful counterculture of the day with honesty & understanding. There's no separating that from their undeniable musical talent for me β¦ and probably for many others too. But even with that era now some 50 years past, their work retains its warmth & is still fun to hear β most highly recommended!

Great price for a substantial dose of the folk comedy duo...
Let's face it, folk singing is not as popular as it used to be, and comics have gotten a lot more profane and risque than they used to be. So, more than an hour's worth of the Smothers Brothers, who were TV trail blazers with their own network variety show, can have some dated moments. But Tom and Dick were actually good singers and pickers and good comic writers and performers, and this product shows them off well. There are a lot of laughs here, and it holds up for two or three repeat plays before one can remember most of the punchlines. It's a bargain if you are old enough to remember them when they were a hot act, and a worthy introduction if you like the folk sound and clean comedy.

60's Classics
For all of us who are old enough to remember the 60's, this is a great reminder. A lot of the stuff on this album is directly related to the things we all hated & protested at that time. However, I bought this album mostly for one reason: CRABS WALK SIDEWAYS & LOBSTERS WALK STRAIGHT. I hadn't thought of this song in years, & somehow I got a memory about it & wanted to hear it again. It's hilarious & funny. The whole album is great, & it's a fun way to get a memory or two going. Enjoy!

So happy to have re-ordered it
This is the absolute prime collection of Smothers Brothers songs. I'm so depressed that the copy I got at 13 was stolen with a bunch of other CDs. This really needs a reprint and a digital port onto iTunes and Amazon Music! So happy to have re-ordered it, but not super happy that it has to be used and $45.

Wonderful "Good Old Days"
Perfectly good CD. It is good for people our age to return to the "good old days" and relive some of the best in entertainment. We think it is a shame that this kind of entertainment cannot be a hit in modern times. No need for all the foul mouth comedians and song lyrics to be entertaining.

I used to have a lot of this CD on record. It amused me then and still does now. What more can I say. If you're in the mood for a good laugh, then this is for you.
