From Omaha Beach to. St. Lo., an infantry solder’s diary
This was an excellent first person history of an ordinary infantry soldier who somehow survived the Normandy landings on Omaha Beach and went on to do his part in the defeating the Germans in the battles leading up to the capture of St. Lo. As a student of World War II history, I highly recommend reading this book because it is a first hand account of his experience and it makes one proud to be an American, something which the liberal left of today knows nothing about.

This is fiction.
I ordered this book because it was portrayed to be non fiction, with real photos throughout the book. When I received the book, in the front there is a paragraph saying that Scott Pendleton Collins and the events are fictional.I was thoroughly disappointed because I am a non-fiction reader.

My son's book report
My son has Asperger's Syndrome and doesn't take well to extremely emotional books (like this one). I was presently surprised by his focus to read the book completely by himself and still discuss it with me prior to starting his book report. it was specific, somewhat emotional, but definitely introduced some ideas that I haven't been able to explain to my son.I should create a list of books that my son has responded to in a positive manner!

War IS hell!
In the past several years, since my Dad, a D-Day flyer, finally shared his story, I have searched out more and more WWII tales. This was a welcome addition to the mix: Unbroken, War Brides, Eye of the Needle, We Band of Angels and more. Great tales all.

Excellent book for my WWII unit
Excellent book for my WWII unit. I used it for the boys who absolutely refused to read Dairy of a Young Girl. I liked that it gave the point of view of a "real" soldier, with fears, wishes, needs, and expectations. Very moving.

We were Heroes.
I liked a lot the book. I liked the story and the way it was written. I read it as fast as I could. This is my second book that I read from "The journal of...". I liked both.

An extremely good read.
A very good read in that the detail of everyday life for a common soldier. The only thing I found wrong in my opinion was the story ended when the hero was wounded leaving the rest of the people in question. I highly recommend the book to any one no matter what age. While vastly interesting, it also teaches a good lesson in history. It is after all, a man in combat's daily diary.
