A shoe adapter that goes great with your Sony Camcorder.
I got this for my Sony HDR-CX560V camcorder, I have an HVL-20DW2 video light and I needed to attach it to my camcorder, but of course the Sony camcorder only has an Active Shoe Interface for electronically powered digital microphones or camera lights. So fitting my HVL meant I needed either a mounting bracket, or a shooting grip. I already had a mounting bracket for my shotgun microphone, so another bracket just wouldn't work with both a large shotgun mic, and the HVL.So I took a look at the shoe adapter for the Active shoe slot, got it today, and it solved my problems. It fits tightly into the slot, and it did take a little force to slide it in since it doesn't have the connection prongs, but a solid plastic block. It does tighten into the slot with the screw like other Active shoe accessories and forms a tight grip that easily supports my HVL and the accompanying battery NP-F970.Once I removed the shoe accessory, the Active slot was perfectly fine. My accessories worked perfectly, and there was no damage done from the shoe mount to the Active slot. So I know I can put this shoe mount on and off the camera safely which was my main concern since sustaining any damage in the active shoe slot would be damaging to the camcorder. It has a fairly sturdy construction when mounted to the slot and camcorder, and with the light and battery in place, it was well balanced on my camcorder, and the metal shoe mount on top didn't warp, bend, or show any signs of stress breaking. Overall, I'm very pleased with this add on, and it saved me from having to get another bracket or a shooting grip I don't need. For the money and convenience, I would highly suggest getting one for your compatible Sony camcorder if you want to attach regular camcorder accessories that don't require a powered connection to the camcorder.

Did not fit well and was not durable
Chalk this purchase up to experience. I bought this to attach a 5" LCD monitor to my Sony Camcorder. It obviously has two connection points, one to the camera and the standard shoe fitting. The Shoe fitting was snug and stable but the connection to the camcorder felt like it was going to snap off on day one. It managed to survive 7 games (Football shot from a Tripod) before it gave up the ghost and split into 4 pieces.Save your time and aggravation for all but the lightest accessories and purchase a higher quality item such as the Shoe adapter from Digital Goja. It's about $10 more but is made from a single, solid hunk of metal and should last forever. It also fits the camera much better.

Works like a champ! Just take time and care of your gear.
This thing works perfectly.Yes, its cheaply made and feels like it, but it does its job very well!Could it be better made? Yeah, if it was C&C'd from a metal then some how coated to prevent shorting out the AIS shoe. then it would cost a lot more. Oh wait, Sony makes one of these too, and its plastic and it breaks too, just costs a lot more....Does it feel like you could easily snap the foot off?... yeah, but then again the Sony AIS shoes are designed by default to be tight!!! so its not the fault of this adapter if it breaks. You cant just reach up there and yank off-angle or up or quickly. Take your time and take care of your gear. Slide it SLOWLY back in a STRAIGHT line and don't yank off-angle. When it gets to the back of the AIS shoe, take your time and jiggle it up delicately and it will serve you without issue.NOTE: THIS ONE is for the AIS shoe ONLY!!! NOT the Multi-Interface Shoe.It does NOT pass-thru power. Then again, why would you want to kill your camera battery by powering other devices? The Sony cameras that accept other mics normally have the 1/8" camera powered mic jack on them. Then again the jack there wont be your problem when using an external mic, it will be the native, uncontrollable, Sony AGC (automatic gain control) once you have a mic hooked up. Thus the reason for the outboard gear that I run (listed below).I mount large items on top of this.Normal setup is one of the following setups:- Rode VideoPro Mic (with and without the deadcat)- Tascam TM-2X Mic (with and without the deadcat)- Tascam DR-100MK II digital recorder- Tascam DR-70D digital recorder- DR-70D + either of the mics mounted on topNote, when I load up with the DR-70D, its normally on top when I have to go handheld (because it gets in the way of the camera operation). If I have the ability to mount on monopod or tripod, then the DR-70D goes under the camera and the mics go up top.

Works on my camera ... but not for long
First, here is my initial review, posted shortly after I purchased the product:I have a Sony HDR-CX700 camcorder and it needs this adapter to allow me to attach non-Sony items to the camera. It is a little tight to install, but once installed, it works perfectly.-----------------------However ...Just before I was going to film a wedding, the adapter broke in half. That night, after the wedding, I took it to my show and found that the top and bottom half are held together with only two screws, and these screws go through holes that are too big for the screw head. Therefore, without a washer, the screw cannot hold the top and bottom half together. There are washers on each screw, but they are thin, flexible plastic washers that are 100% guaranteed to fail as soon as any torque or pressure is applied to the adapter, such as readjusting a light or microphone attached to the camera through this adapter. So, in summary, a single, thin plastic washer is all that keeps the two screws from pulling through the holes, thus causing the two halves to pop apart. I had some small thin washers and was able to repair mine, but now that I understand the design, I wouldn't trust this to hold any equipment that I didn't want to damage or lose.Perhaps it was designed this way so that if you turn or torque whatever is attached to the adapter, that force won't break the mount in the camcorder. However, I think the real reason is that it is just really badly made.
