The Outdoor Shower: Creative design ideas for backyard living, from the functional to the fantastic Paperback – April 1, 2006

Wanting to build an outdoor shower, I needed a reference book with pictures, information and tips for the project. The book fulfilled all those needs and reading it before dealing with our contractor helped me to formulate my ideas. The book covers designs from the simple to the elaborate, gives you options about materials, and I used a number of design elements in my shower based on their beautiful photographs. I showed the book to the contractor and let him read about certain topics so he was technically on the same page as the expert authors. Easy to understand and use, filled with diagrams as well as photos.

We are designing our own outdoor shower and this book has LOTS of inspiration from simple to elegant to over the top! Makes a nice coffee table book as well.

Very good book showing some technical points to consider including location, plumbing, style, etc. Many great photos to help with planning. Could have a little more info on plumbing aspects.

The design ideas in the book certainly are enough to light a fire in those who enjoy doing their own construction/renovation. There are numerous pictures showing the range of complexity that can be found in outdoor showers. It does give a good general overview on topics like design, planning, integration with existing structures, plumbing, local building codes and drainage. But sadly that's about all the book is: a general overview. Their really isn't any sort of "how-to" in the book. I don't mean full-blown construction plans but a discussion about something as basic as how to get hot water without paying hundreds of dollars to a plumber. I really enjoyed reading the information and viewing all the photos but when I was done with the book I felt like it didn't get me any closer to figuring out what kind of shower to make or even if I should try and attempt this project on my own at all! And just for the record, I am no slouch when it comes to construction\renovation nor am I one to back away from a DIY project because I think its above my pay grade. I just felt that this book really didn't do anything that an unhurried meandering in Home Depot for two hours would accomplish. As I said, it does light a fire but really doesn't seem to help with directing that fire once it's been lit.

The book has some interesting ideas and nice pictures, but it really comes up short in planning and building an outdoor shower. Eventually I did it myself and, by the way, there were some plumbing errors that should be pointed out to the author, specifically there are two kinds of PVC pipe, one for hot and cold and one just for cold water.

This is a good book. Obviously it isn't going to build your shower for you, but it does give you good advice on how to get water to your shower and how to drain it.It's also great for giving you some ideas about what you want your shower enclosure to look like.

Nice book but wish they gave info on prices an where to get everything. But for what they’re Snowden could be done was certainly. Well worth the price of the book . And true how could they do that? Prices change and businesses also change or shut down Soo! Great book!

Wasn't what I expected. Didn't help me decide on an outdoor shower.
