abc British Railways Combined Volume 1948

If you have an interest in railway history this gives a snapshot of what the capital stock was when nationalisation of the railways occurred. It gives an interesting comparison with how the railways are today in terms of motive power, variety and regional differences. The photos may seem poor quality by comparison with current standards but given they are reproductions of originals taken at a time of national shortages in all things, and photographic things in particular, the quantity is exceptional. It may appear as just long lists of numbers but it gives an insight into what was necessary when almost all people and goods were conveyed by rail, and perhaps what will be necessary if environmental considerations force the abandonment of the motor car. that besides it's just great nostalgia.

Excellent reprint of this historic book. Very interesting to have it again, it brings back many memories of my young days.Highly recommended.

Excellent reference book which is most useful for modelling.

Perfect record of rail stock at the time. Interestingly did not at that stage contain the loco shed information.

An excellent book in all aspects
