Thinking about a sling? Think again!
Setup:Right out of the box, this is a better product than sling box. Let me just say that I have personally used both products on the exact same setup and this one is far superior. Setup was a breeze, I didn't even have to touch my router and everything was up and running very quickly. I plugged it in, my computer found it on the network and a couple minor settings that the wizard guides you through and your done. I didn't even have to configure my router and had no problem connecting from outside the local network.Performance:Local performance was excellent. Video quality was great and audio quality was very good as well. Didn't have to adjust anything, worked right out of the box.Remote video also worked right out of the box. One thing I noticed is the upload speed seems to be capped at about 1 megabit. Now that uploads are getting faster, I don't know why they wouldn't let you go higher. Hopefully this is fixed soon. Picture quality is ok, but not even close to lan. Ease of setup for remote access is very simple.I noticed the hava to be overall much less laggy then the slingbox. Better video quality hands down and a great interface. One huge upside to the hava is it automatically records to your pc just like a dvr. So even on remote viewing if you rewind something, it is instant since it will be cached. If you have a dvr, the hava is actually recording what comes out of the box, so if you are flipping channels or doing menu commands and rewind something, this will show up. Just keep that in mind.Pros:-Easier setup than sling-Better video quality hands down-Built in dvr-Excellent interface-Very little lag-Worked great on an older computer-Windows mobile player is free vs paid with sling if you have a smart phone-HD looks pretty good on local connection.Cons:-Remote access viewing capped around a megabit-Poor audio quality via remote access (need adjustment setting)-I got the mobile player working, but much to laggy to watch (HTC Touch Pro/Sprint EVDO)-Not full hd (says full hd on the box)Overall I am very happy with it and if you are in the market for one of these devices, get a hava. One thing to note, this box will take in a hd signal which is good because my dvr is an hd box. However while the hd channels look much better in the player it is still not hd. So don't think you are going to be streaming actual hd all over the place. Again, it still looks very good but by no means is it full hd. The player does have a full and widescreen setting which even widescreen looks good on standard channels. Player does an excellent job as displaying video. I'm still giving this 5 stars as setup was a breeze and everything worked right out of the box. Only thing I am a little disappointed with is the audio quality on remote viewing and the bandwidth cap which can be fixed via software/firmware update.

Great product, price, and service
Hava player works as advertised. Easy to setup. I haven't played with any DVR functions yet, but works great for watching tv, if you have a fast connection (of course). Order arrived as advertised - no hassles (the best kind of transaction!)

Slingbox Solo is better
I have a Slingbox Solo and bought this to get better quality. It looked great at my home. However, on a remote operation I couldn't even get Hava Platinum to work. It kept locking up with the same bit rate as the Slingbox. I wanted it so that I could record with it. However, could only do that at home and not on the road. I sent it back. I'll keep my Slingbox.

You get what you paid for
I bought this to record gameplay footage on my Xbox 360 after seeing an article about using this exact product. I didn't really see anything else that recorded component signals at the time to I opted for this one.The unit compresses into MPEG-2 in real time which keeps the file small, but it loses a lot of the quality right off the bat. If you are looking for something that looks nice, this is not the thing for you.Over the network, I experienced issues with lag and pauses. Sometimes it would skip a few frames, due to bandwidth issues I presume. I hooked it up directly to my laptop with a crossover Ethernet cable and with some tweaking it works fine. Just read the directions on how to do it.My grief is that every time I disconnect it, I need to setup again to use it next time. I obviously don't leave my laptop plugged into the recorder all the time. The process is slow and doesn't always work right resulting in rebooting and trying multiple times. You will also need to convert the files if you plan to edit with Window Movie Maker. There are some free software out there that does that and can even edit and render for you. I used VirtualDubMod for the clips I used. The physical unit is not well designed. The case has poor ventilation resulting in overheating of the processors and memory chips inside. At first, the unit would case some artifacts and discoloration on my TV screen after I leave it on for a day. If you turn it off, you need to redo some of your settings. I installed heatsinks on the chips and left the cover off to resolve the problem. I even installed a fan, but I think that part might have been overkill. Problem seems to be fixed.

Good device, no Blackberry support
The platinum is a decent device and the price was right when I got it. It worked well on the PC. The video was good but was not HD even when the laptop was wired to my home network. My company blocks the ports that Hava uses so I can't use it during my lunch breaks while at work. I have a BlackBerry and HAVA still does not support it. The Platinum lacks USB which the Titanium has. The myhava website only shows that the Titanium comes with a wireless dongle which I do not need nor want to pay for which was why I went with the Platinum. After further research, other retailers like Amazon sells the Titanium without the dongle. The myhava website never mentioned that you can get the Titanium without the wireless dongle. A bit misleading to me.I ended up returning the unit.
