A good meter, easy to read and accurate, but one star deducted because you have to lug that heavy lump of ironwork around with it - surely they could have included a resistance in the meter itself? Which would have been much more simple and convenient.

Seems pretty accurate after calibrating using my Fluke Multimeter. (There is a little calibrating screw on the front black panel).I wanted a portable analogue ammeter. So I used this inexpensive bit of kit to make one. I had all the bits lying around. So just a few hours tinkering. All sorted. Works a treat.Will no doubt save me a lot of multimeter fuses. You know. When you forget to swap the plugs over on the multimeter leads between amps and volts, then do a voltage reading. ‘Pop’ another fuse gone!I used a draw tidy box. Quite strong. Wilkinsons do them, although I got a set from Aldi years ago.A 20A switch salvaged from something and an automotive in-line fuse holder ( I have fused it at 20A). Crimp terminals and flex in stock too!Switch for control and the fuse for safety of the load/thing being tested. Without the fuse the meter should be okay with overload within reason, as the shunt takes all the current and it is the voltage drop across the shunt (a known very low value resistor) that the meter uses to indicate current flow. That is why they are necessary on higher current ammeters to stop them cooking or they would be huge.Cardboard base (tissue box). Spread with epoxy on plain side. Box sat on top and weighted. Then cut around before it fully ‘went off’. Sprayed black, lacquered and stick on feet pads. Jobs a good’un. Sad but fun to make.😁

Connected the ammeter and shunt into the 12volt side of my 12volt to 220volt inverter and connected a 60Watt light bulb into the inverter 220v socket. The ammeter read 5Amps, at 12volts, which is correct 5x12= 60. Therefore happy with the purchase.

Hate digital, love analogue for rate of change. Four used on Solar Panel/battery backup system.Update after six months use.... As I have built this myself, I wanted to see if there were any potential problems arising and these meters have helped. Low current supply fault... Variance shown clearly on meter and enabled me to quickly find the problem... Bad supply connecting wire.. As the actual supply was 5 Amps, but should have been 10 Amps. By pressing/pulling connection cables, the supply varied... Found and solved quickly..
