The Comprehensive Guide to Tracking: How to Track Animals and Humans by Using All the Senses and Logical Reasoning

I have bought hundreds of tracking books and I have to say this is the best one to date. This book is great for not only the beginner but has information that helps even the most seasoned tracker follow the clues more productively. From simple exercises to get yourself more in tuned with your senses, to blood trailing, to man tracking, this book is jammed packed full of information that opens your eyes to the world around you. Pictures are great, if a bit graphic in places, but that's all part of tracking. Excellently done.If there were anything negative to say about it would be that the animals depicted were from Africa and I live in North America. Not a big deal as a good Rezendes or the more in depth Elbroch can take care of that. But even those excellent authors don't match the sheer amount of information that this author jammed into his book. If you like reading tracking books and want to actually grow your knowledge base, this is the book to buy.

This certainly was an in depth book, but sadly, too in depth for me. This covers all kinds of tracking of different animals in different countries. I returned this product becasue I wasn't careful reading the review, thus realizing that it was not completely what I needed.I ended up ordering Mammal Tracks & Sign - A Guide to North American Species by Mark Elbroch which is exactly what I was looking for.So, if you are planning on tracking and hunting in different parts of the world, this book is for you.

If you're looking to trophy hunt in Africa, this is for you. Not a book you'll use for anything in North America or Europe. Wish the product description would have stated so, else I wouldn't have bought this book. There is some good general information for tracking, but this is not the book you want if you're going after deer, black bear, etc. No information on them whatsoever.Not a fan of trophy hunting, so this book will not do it for me.

A very comprehensive book on tracking and approaching animals based on their smell, footprint, and waste! It even teaches you how to track humans.This book is one of the most impressive books that I keep in my bookshelf and could be a great reference for hunters, rangers, and conservationists.After reading this book, you are ready for practice!

Absolutely outstanding -- an excellent and clearly written treatise with a profusion of photographs and illustrations. Cheney presents an organized approach to understanding and learning to track. Even more, he promotes the use of reason and insight to increase tracking success and increase learning.

After being in RSA, this is the best book on the subject I have seen.

If you want to understand track and sign you can't just buy one book. It is impossible to find one with all the informations you need. Infact I have lots of book... But this, this book make me think that, yes, probably there is a book that says everithing.

Very comprehensive book. Obvious bias towards the south african environment, but the essential skills of tracking are brilliantly set out here and would be of value to anyone interested in the outdoors/bushcraft/animal watching/ Search and Rescue team member etc.

Without a doubt the best book I have read on tracking. Anyone whatever their experience can learn something from this book.
