HV Ammo in a submachine pistol?
Masamune Shirow remains to this day my favorite artist. I really enjoy his technical precision along with his whimsy and imagination, which comes through strongly in this volume.Herein is a collection of work which spans a decade, from 1981 to 1991. Some of it is familiar, such as now classic images from the works of Appleseed (my first love), Dominion and Ghost in the Shell. The rest is new to me, containing roughs, color variants, and full fledged commissioned art for things not seen in the West. Some of the comic panels aren’t translated, but everything else is wonderfully annotated in Japanese and English. Here is where Shirow’s humor shines. I always loved the little comments he would make in the margins of his manga. He’s doing the same thing here, but in a more robust manner. There is something charming about a master referring to his own designs as ridiculous or impractical, and while this book is certainly not for all ages, it’s a perfect companion to every other Shirow work you already have.

One of Masamune Shirow best.
One of Masamune Shirow best. What more could you want. Just listen to him talk casually about this and that and how it all can to be.

Awesome Anime
This is Shirow's first string of 'Intron Depot' books, and I think is the one that shows the most 'soul' and personal style. While the 2nd and 3rd books in the series ("Blades" and "Ballistics") are also good, this one is a little more free and shows off his natural talent as opposed to using the digital backgrounds and effects that his latter books seem to display. The watercolor and sketchy pencil look gives it a better show of his thought process and is generally more 'free' looking. The book is filled with things men like: women and machines. And looking through this collection, Masamune does a great job at blending the two. Overall a good book to get if you're looking for anime-style works.

Incredible Work!
This is probably one of the best art books I've seen in a long time. All of Masamune Shirow's illustrations are original color-only designs, including several from popular series such as Ghost in the Shell down to his lesser known work such as Orion and Black Magic. The artwork is top-notch quality with absolutely no "filler" work. Most interestingly, it includes commentary by Shirow in both Japanese AND English, which is highly unusual for a title like this. This allows for some particularly informed knowledge on the insight of one of Japan's premier science fiction artists and writers. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoyed Shirow's work in Ghost in the Shell or Appleseed.
