rare musical treasure
I cannot really express in words what this music means to me. This album is a very rare musical treasure, and has been like the voice of god for me 23 years or so, since I first purchased it on vinyl. There is no one in my personal life with whom I can share my love for this music; so I was happy recently seeing some well-written reviews from members of "my family" that I have never met. I always knew there were others out there who knew about the brilliance of "Three Quartets".I agree with others (including Chick - see his note in booklet) that the extras don't really belong on this album. The majesty, pathos, bliss, and orgasmic shakti of the three main pieces put them in a class by themselves. They are serious and sacred compositions, and these recordings represent a historical convergence of talent and inspiration. As a college student in the early 80's, I was so rocked by this comet that blew through my solar system, that I wrote Chick a letter of heartfelt thanks -- and HE WROTE ME BACK. I attached that letter to the cover my Three Quartets LP, and there it remains today. The man has great heart, and his musical imagination calls to us from a most remarkable realm. Some of us recognize the same in ourselves, and journey a short while with him.

Fascinating
Buy this cd, if not for the songs, for his compositions because they are fascinating and wild. Who ever would of thought of these chords and melodies? Songs are abstract, yet somehow they are melodically synchronized and flow with the complex rhythms. I dont think anyone in a million years could think up of the stuff that chick corea comes up with. Very nice acoustic feel as well. i love acoustic bands because it is very natural, no digitalized things.

Genial, extraordinario

Not for IPods
This album is just sick. It sets the bar way too high for other musicians. It's beautiful and moody. It's what your stereo is supposed to sound like

Incredible album!
Another masterpiece from Chick Corea! Chick is definitely an American treasure who keeps evolving and bringing freshness to an often stagnant musical world...

Setting the bar VERY high!
This is a magical Jazz recording, which grabs your attention from the first listen, and reveals itself the more you listen to it. If you've seen the reunion gig filmed at the Blue Note club some 20+ years later you'll know that Chick Corea wrote this as a sort of Jazz equivalent to a classical string quartet.Originally recorded in 1981 the all-star band is fantastic:Michael Brecker - tenor saxEddie Gomez - bassSteve Gadd - drumsChick Corea - acoustic PianoThe version of the album I bought had 4 bonus tracks, which make the purchase even more essential. All the musicians are superb, but this is the first album where I realised how just how good Michael Brecker was. On the reunion gig, if anything he is even better - in fact sensationally good.Highly recommended.

***** Criminal that this hasn't been rated yet *****
I used to listen to this as a teenager over 25 years ago. It was in my old man's record collection and I loved it back then. I'm not a massive fan of Chick Corea's output but this album with piano bass drums and Brecker's vitriolic sax kicks jazz arses all over the place. Intelligent and explorative. Can't rate this album enough.

Masterpiece
Got to agree with the other review here - this is an astounding jazz album and I have been listening to it for the last thirty years. It really underlines the extent of Corea's career when something of this quality gets left off the critical radar. Splendid stuff from a team firing on all cylinders!

Avevo comperato il disco in vinile quando uscì ... anni fa.La versione di oggi su CD rimasterizzata è veramente notevole.Chick Corea ed i musici che suonano con lui sono emozionanti.Bello!
