A Year of Gingerbread Houses: Making & Decorating Gingerbread Houses for All Seasons

I made my first gingerbread house last year during COVID and now my kids want to make one every year. Luckily I found this book. It really helps take your skills to the next level. There are very specific recommendations and instructions from piping techniques to specific product recommendations. Lots of pictures with tons of ideas. Having one book with all the info you need is so much easier than googling gingerbread house ideas and trying to figure out how they made things. I promise you can make something amazing with this book!

I was very hesitant to buy this book because quite frankly I don't want to pay $14 for a little bit on how to make gingerbread houses. After reading other reviews, I decided to take a chance and I am so thrilled that I bought this... I'm thankful to the others who left their reviews... The book is excellent at giving you an introduction to making gingerbread houses and how to create all of the beautiful decorations. It gives you information about icings and how to type... You get recipes and templates and piping practice drawings, Etc... This book is perfect for any beginner or for anybody that has a lot of experience and just wants a reference book for ideas

This book is perfect! I love making gingerbread houses every year and I enter mine in a contest every year. The red house - Keri's Ski Cabin - won me third place in the professional division! (Considering I'm a new graduate, I'm proud of that). It's a nice book - the print is clean and vibrant and the pictures are great. The book details what equipment you need to make a house and it explains everything in detail, so you don't need to be a professional to make a nice house!

This book is full of techniques for decoration with great pictures and details. The only thing that was missing for me was more visuals for non-winter holiday houses. Since the book was called "A Year of Houses" I thought there would be more examples. She gives you all the techniques you need to create any houses but of the 6 detailed houses included 3 of them are winter houses. I visited her website after reading the book and there are more of the visuals that I was looking for. If you are looking for ideas for houses, you will still need to browse the internet but she gives you all the tools to create them.

A friend loaned me her book to peruse, as I enjoy decorating royal icing cookies. I had to have one for myself! There are a multitude of ideas and techniques that can be used on both cakes, cookies and of course, gingerbread houses! I was thrilled to find this book on Amazon and look forward to receiving my copy.

So, I love this book- it was fun to read, and I used it for making my own gingerbread house this year (I used the gingerbread recipe, royal icing recipe, and baking/icing tips, but I pulled a house template off the internet that I liked better). The downside was that it took me like 10 hours to get the supplies, make and bake the recipes, cut out the house, decorate it, glue it together, etc. By the time I was done making the house I had decided never to make one from scratch again... Next year I will buy a kit and just do the decoration part!I will say that if you try to make a house that looks exactly like one of the author's, you might be disappointed that it doesn't turn out looking as good as hers- she is definitely a "pro". Brings to mind the "nailed it" memes you see on Buzzfeed...

I have been making gingerbread houses for many years, and have many books on the subject. This is one of the best. Clear instructions, good dough recipes (vital for houses that are structurally sound), and charming design ideas. Much of the house decorating is in the Russian/Hungarian style, which involves intricate folk art designs, but here the highly formal piping work is adapted into a more relaxed style. My only slight disappointment is that the book does not include the wonderful homemade roof tiles, a la Necco wafers, that can be found on Samuell's web site. An excellent addition to my bookcase, and one that I am sure I will refer to again and again

From beginner to advanced this book is amazing for anyone who enjoys making gingerbread houses. Beautiful designs and step by step instructions to create amazing gingerbread houses and decorations. Helpful templates and gorgeous photos.

The pictures are great with gingerbread houses for all year round but the best thing about this book is the templates that are included. I may even be able to turn these shapes into sewing projects

Istruisce grazie a numerosissime fotografie a tutti i passaggi necessari per le varie tecniche.Lo consiglio e chi vuole, non solo per le gingerbread houses, imparare nuove tecniche e metodologie di copertura e decorazione con la ghiaccia reale ma non lo consiglierei a chi non ha mai sperimentato o provato con la ghiaccia perché si demoralizzerebbe.Anche se in inglese é di facile consultazione e non bisogna sapere perfettamente la lingua per leggerlo in quanto molto semplice.La ricetta dei biscotti non l'ho provata in quanto ho già la mia personale ricetta ma ad una occhiata veloce sembra bilanciata.Come sempre elogio per la celerità di Amazon anche con i libri in lingua straniera.

I have not yet built /baked a house because book came rather late. It was likely delayed due to the volume of Xmas mail. However, I have read a lot of the tips and recipes, and I am quite happy with what I have learned so far.

ハウスの型紙はサイトからダウンロードしていたのでデザインの参考になるかな、と思い購入しました。製作の手順なども写真があるので英語が不得意な私でもだいたい理解できました。あまり繊細なデザインはありませんが、配色やテクニックなどは勉強になります。クリスマス以外のイベントにも作れそう。

Amazing book, just like her website! I made 8 gingerbread houses for Christmas gifts this year using her ideas and techniques. Lots of photos and detailed instructions. The projects are not just "Christmas", as the designs are applicable for all seasons. Very cute and can't wait to make more!! Great book!
