Love this book
This is a great book. I love Lyn Siler books, they are easy to follow and understand. It has great illustrations and a lot of them. She shows the different types of reed and handles used in basket weaving, so it's easy when you order your supplies. Most of the pictures are black and white, but some are colored. The way she explains things is amazing. It makes you feel like a professional basket weaver. I haven't made all of the baskets in this book. The ones I have made I love. Lyn Siler makes it easy to fall in love with basket weaving and with her books. I would definitely recommend this book and any other book by Lynn Siler to other people.

super resource
This book has good directions and a list of supplies for each basket. The drawings are very helpful. On a few occasions (but rarely) I felt like I needed to be a basket maker to understand what they are asking me to do. But, if I study the text and images for a little while I eventually figured things out.Overall a good investment as someone who wants to weave, and needs some patterns/ designs to follow. I am glad I bought this book.

How can this have such glowing reviews?
I don't understand why this book has such a good rating. I am an absolute beginner, but apparently others have been also and had no problems.I ran into problems right off the bat. On the list of tools, I have most of them like they said. A couple of others I figured I could substitute something else for, provided wire cutters will work as reed cutters. But the "sur-form shaper" mystified me. I don't even know what it is!!!! (I have since searched the internet and found nothing to really describe it, but the best I can figure out it doesn't even seem like something that would be needed for a basket.)My very first reaction was to look in the index of the book, where it should be listed everywhere it's referenced, right? Well, if it's there my eyes are worse than I thought. The dinky little "index" is very short, by the way. How am I supposed to find anything without reading every word in the book??Just skimming through it, I don't see anything for an absolute beginner, anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think there are even any baskets without handles. Thank goodness I bought this book used so at least it didn't cost much.

Great book
I have had this book for a long time, and loaned it out and it never was returned. I just had to have it again. This book takes you through every step of basket making, even if you had never done it before. The photos and directions are clear and inspiring. The watercolors are an added bonus. All of the baskets are useful and you will probably want to make every one of them. Although I am an now an advanced basket maker, this book still serves a purpose in my library. This book is informative even if you only collect and enjoy baskets.

Complete Guide
This book is a complete guide to basic basket weaving with great illustrations along with patterns to make 30 or more baskets. Somehow my first hardcover was loaned out and never returned...therefore I'm buying it again for future reference. I'm an intermediate basket weaver with plenty of experience making baskets but still find this book my go-to guide packed with easy to follow diagrams and information. The color photos and artist drawings throughout the book make it so beautiful.

Leaning to weave
This book covers all the information you need to be able to weave any pattern in the book. Siler also teaches how to weave your own pattern. She does assume you will be purchasing your supplies, so each project tells you what you need. I made a basket from scratch - got my supplies from a tree - and I was able to use her instructions with my varied materials to weave a basket. I had not woven before.

a great book if it's what you're looking for..
this book is very good if you are into the native american style of basketry. these baskets are very beautiful but they're not the same type as traditional english baskets. she does have one english-type (willow) basket in here, but it's very simple and doesn't really help much. all the other baskets are reed and of quite a different style and construction.having said that it is a very good book, but only if you want details on a very specific style (try looking at the bigger picture of the cover to see the details).hope this is helpful to you...hannah
