Roses in Watercolour (Ready to Paint) Paperback – June 1, 2011

I had mis-reviewed this book until I actually got into it and learning the techniques she is teaching. She is taking us to using the 'other side of our brains' into the world of negative painting. It is a must for every watercolor artist to learn. It is simply not like using a coloring book as a child and filling in the correct colors. It is a beginner's guide to 'negative painting'. Check out YouTube so you will know what is in this book and why you should learn to use it correctly. In the end, you will have amazingly beautiful paintings. Have had difficulty in finding some of her colors but that's not really a problem when one knows how to mix your own. I am totally thrilled with this book and what it teaches us.

I have finished one of the rose paintings and it came out well. The patterns are helpful. I don't think it would be very doable if one doesn't have some background with painting. I used the pattern and made colors similar to her suggestions. I read through her directions and basically used her final picture as my guide to paint it. It's fun. I have been taking lessons for 2.5 years so it is a great exercise for me.

Beautiful book, but it was not ready to paint. There were colorful pictures of flowers one could attempt to trace, but no simple outlines in the book. It looks like the book contains some good tips, but the ready to paint disclaimer was misleading.

Its a nice book. I just wish the painting practice pages actually showed the real reference photos. But all watercolor books seem to do this. There is never any real actual reference photos. Only their painting that we are suppose to use as a reference and I want to paint my own interpretation of a reference.

My wife selected the yellow rose climbers on a trellis. I made a copy of the tracing at 200% and went to work on the largest format I every worked. It was a knock-out eye-popping piece. It did wonders for my confidence, as the instructions were very good. I am 81 years old and never painted before this year. If I could attach a photo I would.

Janet Whittle not only paints beautiful roses, but gives you the techniques and step by step instructions to do the same. A great way to learn about the vivid colors she uses for background as well as "negative" painting. You will be pleased with the finished results you can accomplish by using her book.

An excellent book. Lots of step by step illustrations and beautiful rose patterns. Can't wait to get started. Not for rank beginners, but very nice for watercolorists with some experience. Would also work for people with painting experience looking for patterns for acrylics or oils, but the steps would have to be adapted to the other mediums.

Good reference and good drawings for painters. Most books do not come with drawings. Many painters are not good at drawing so with drawings included you can get right to painting for a fun and great learning session.

I bought this book because along with many other people I cannot draw but would love to paint, now I can , using this book I can now paint beautiful roses that look pretty amazing when you follow the instructions, the instructions are clear and follow along with pictures as well , so you can't go wrong , just try it you will also be amazed if you can't draw , go for it and try.

Love it.. Fully traced with lots of instruction. I didn't buy all of the colours that the artist uses but have managed to turn out a half decent picture for all that - and enjoyed doing it too.

A present for a friend and I have seen inside and looks very good to me. Ideal for someone who can paint a little and wants to try someone more involved. My friend is chuffed with this book.

Would recommend this book.

this book is great. I don,t copy the paintings but get the feel and follow the techniques outlined and have been very successful.
