Tortoise Pads T2 - Seven Pad Impact Protection System - Padded Shorts with Tailbone, Glute, Hip and Side Leg Pads

I wanted to write a second review as an update. My first review was all good. In this one I’d like to mention that while they have adequate padding...you can add more! I cut out some squishy foam in the correct shapes to place against my skin in the compartments. There’s room to spare. I tested them a few times and dropped onto my butt purposely. No pain. Now it feels like I’m falling onto pillows. I beefed up the tailbone pad and the hip pads this way. I could probably also cut a hard plastic layer for the outside and really boost the effectiveness. I’m going 40mph downhill on my bike a lot and want to be really safe if I wreck.Ok so another mention is that even with this extra padding, they fit under my pants and I look totally normal. It maybe looks like I did a few more squats at the gym. In the picture I am wearing these shorts as well as knee/shin guards by Fox and ankle guards. All this under skinny legged jogging pants and totally comfortable. I wish I found these so much earlier. Great product.

I weigh 120, 5'3" female. Bought adult small. PERFECT!. I inline skate. I am too old and wise to think I will never fall. I have padded basketball shorts that saved me twice last year during the re-learning curve time, so I know better than to tempt fate. Treated myself to these Tortoise Pad shorts just because I was getting a little tired of the other ones I own being so bulky and hot. So glad I did. I had no idea what I was missing.The pluses on these tortoise pad shorts are easy to describe.1.) You can remove some of the padding if you like. AND I DID. The pads are layered so you can take out a few layers or if you want even more out take out the last couple of layers and carefully split them where a small amount of adhesive has been carefully placed. This is really easy to do and they are totally smooth and wonderful after doing this. There are a couple different thicknesses and density s so you can figure out just what you want. Very Clever. You could start with lots of padding if you are learning a sport and then slim down as you get better.2.) These ARE your underwear so you just put them on and then pull on a pair of shorts. It ends up looking pretty normal. Non fitted athletic shorts pull right on over these. Most padded shorts are to be worn over underwear. So you end up with 3 layers- underwear, padded shorts and then regular shorts to cover up the ugly. Makes it very hot in the summer.3.) Comfort. They are cool and the waist band is wonderful. Not so loose they fall down but not so tight that you can't wait to get them off. Tight waist bands make for sore sacroiliacs on me so very much appreciated. The length is nice and shorter than most padded shorts so not a lot of extra hanging past your regular shorts.4.) Simple clever design. There are pockets that the padding slide in with a flap to lock them in place. Easy to take extra padding out. I have to take a few pads all the way out to reduce the thickness and I had no trouble putting back the less bulky version. I advise you just do one pad at a time so you know which shape goes where. I even plan to use a couple of the removed layers across my front hip bones just in case I manage a fall like that. I slipped an extra pad across that bone and the shorts held it in place without any shifting.If I somehow lost these tomorrow I would immediately replace them. I really can't find anything wrong with them. The price? After you go through three or four cheep pairs looking for comfort and ease of use it is easy to see why these are the price they are. With all the time I have spend trying to make other padded shorts work, I really appreciate the fact that these are just a few pads pulled out away from perfect for me. I think the price if worth it. And I am pretty cheep. Thank you Tortoise Pads for doing all the work for me. I will gladly pay you for that.

I started roller skating at 54, and these are awesome. They are comfortable, and my tailbone doesn't hurt when I fall. And I fall. These give me more confidence because I'm less worried about falling.Of course, I wear a helmet, wrist, knee and elbow pads, too.There's no reason to risk injury, and none of the experienced roller skaters that I know think I look dorky. Not that I care if anyone does, but I know a lot of people worry about looking cool.If you fall and hurt yourself and are out of commission, then you just look stupid 😉

I fell before receiving them and suffered pain on my tush. I may never ride the board again but I still have an electric unicycle. Using these pads builds my confidence when learning and riding.

Great product. I like the fact that there are multiple thicknesses of pads in each compartment, so the thickness can be customized in each area. The fabric is mesh, so it doesn't add unnecessary warmth (other than the pads insulating). I'm a 59-year old figure skater, and so far had just three falls and no bruises and no pain the next day. So nice! I have taken out the thickest and the thinnest pad set, and so far so good. With this extra protection, I am now willing to try harder and I am more willing to fall.

I have been wearing these while ice skating for several months and fortunately hadn't wiped out... until today. Although I felt an ice skate blade in my back from the other person, my bum didn't feel anything, no pain. I have wiped out wearing shorts that look like the Michelin man, so for a comparison, these tortoise shorts absorbed the shock better than my other pair. I am a middle-aged woman, so to feel no pain from a fall is great. I was able to get up and continue skating!

Lets be honest. You ARE going to fall, and that's completely ok. Just accept it. The question is not IF you'll fall, but WHEN and what happens afterwards. I used these for snowboarding after not doing it for a few years. After any fall on my butt or side, I was able to bounce right back up and attack the mountain with the same gusto as I had the day before. I feel like this product made a world of difference. The price is significantly higher than other padded shorts on the market, but it was well worth it to be able to enjoy my days that much more. The fit was great, I didn't even realize I was wearing them, In fact I may start wearing them in my everyday life.I was able to go down the mountain in the same way that I came into this world, Butt first and screaming at the top of my lungs.

Have tried many crash pants before and even worn 3 pairs at once as not many are that substantial and on rollerblades/ice, you hit the floor hard - often on butt. I bought youth L as was confused re sizing. I’m 5’8” 25” w 34 hips - size 24/25” jeans size 6-8 UK and these fit perfectly. Not tight but padding in right places and plenty of room in thighs. Hopefully might help others undecided on Youth/Adult sizing as I was. I haven’t fallen on them yet -to fully test but if 1/2 “ not enough, will buy extra pads. Would work for most sports. As I’m middle aged, dont fancy damaging coccyx but I’m addicted to most sports so these are just what I needed.

Great job my son uses this for the scooter park and has not hurt his butt or tail bone since wearing it - gives him more confidence to try harder tricks and spins - check his youtube channel fluzyplayz for tricks and using the padded shorts

It’s difficult to say as I bough the “right” size bit proved too much. It doesn’t look very sturdy and doesn’t feel like m much of protection but I didn’t have an actual fall to put them to b the test.

My son has been wearing these pads for a while now and wears them for a variety of freestyle action sports. They give him total protection and peace of mind. For me as a parent I’m less worried about injury. These are the highest quality and worth every penny and far exceed the cheaper versions which don’t last. He wouldn’t wear anything else.

These are e best impact shorts we have tried, well worth spending a little more for better quality. My son will not ride his scooter without these now.
