For Urban Legend Lovers
If you love creepy things, you have the right book in your hand. I love legends, urban or not, and I must admit that Japanese urban legends are somewhat different from the others, in a weird of a kind way. Which is good, in my opinion. Each legend is accompanied by research about its possible beginning and facts about places or people who possibly contributed to the creation of the legend. I like a lot that kind of writing because if I want, and I do, I can do my own research and check more about legends that I am interested in.

Great series for fans of urban legends!
This is an excellent book series! Well researched, and I like the formatting of how the stories are presented, with the different category heads(Supernatural, Crime, Jokes, etc.), a recitation of how the legend is generally told, and then an explanation of the origins and how it may have evolved and what regional differences you may encounter. I originally got in to this series in the hopes of reading scary/creepy urban legends, and it definitely delivers there, but I also enjoyed the ones involving the Entertainment industry just as much, and can't imagine any other way of having come across them to read them. So I am grateful to the author for these translations!

addictive
This book was like a bag of potato chips, I had to keep forcing myself to put it down so I didn't gobble it up all at once. Love that we get both the stories and also history and theories about their origin - cool that some of them did seem to develop from real occurrences, but also cool that people just come up with this stuff and it develops and evolves on its own.P.S.: Reporting from my early partially rained-out beach vacation that this is perfect beach reading.

Great read! Must have if you like urban legends
Love this authors writing! Have 5 of her books already. Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Japanese urban legends. She also has several other books about Japan's hauntings, internet mysteries and crime in Japan.

Wonderful and insightful Japanese urban legend book.
I love all of Tara's books and this one was absolutely brilliant as the rest. There had to be a lot of research and hard work that went into this book. Wonderful stories, great writing style. If you like Japanese legends, you will love this book.

Fascinating Book
This book was really good, the stories within this book had got me really captivated that I could not put the book down. How I wish there was every movie for each urban legend based in this book. That's how interesting it was. I always like to explore the dark and scary side of Japan. I certainly would want anyone to purchase this book. I will be reading more books like this as it is never boring. I would have to say that Japanese horror is better then Western horror as always. This book will never disappoint you.

Entertaining
The font size is a bit too big for my taste - I always get a feeling the the author tried to bulk up the book by increasing the font size instead of adding content and it makes me feel cheated or taken for a simpleton. The cover is awesome, I really like the picture. The legends themselves are... well odd, I guess. But all in good fun. All new information to me, so I am content. A japanese friend flipped through it - she laughed and said it was good.

Look out for the 'traps' and 'lures' in some of the stories in the book
I do like this writer's work a lot but in the Toshiden series the writer adds stories that in some cases are forms of active urban 'curses' and the reader does not realise until AFTER the story has been read. Those of a nervous disposition or even just general readers could get a nasty shock. I have other books like this but they usually carry a warning at the top of the page as to the content which I feel should be the case here.
